Opening links in a new window - good/bad SEO?
I have the knack of using the target="_blank" option on all my links, whether they be to external sites, or to pages within my site.
The more I got to thinking about it, the more I wondered if this was the right course of method. My first thought was "well, I want them to stay at the original page they were viewing" but then I wondered if by doing so, it reduces the time on site per user average. What is your take? |
that can annoy the surfers too and cause them to leave if you overdo it, especially for internal links, a picture is ok, but having all of your pages open their own window is overkill
don't think it matters either way for seo though |
I make all links to open within my site because I use black label ads and they wil pay me for each advert that has been viewed, so the more times they refresh the page they more advert impressions they make and the more cash is generated. :)

like d-null says opening all your own site links in new windows is bound to annoy your surfers - dor seo it doesnt matter imho
|
Don't open your internal links in a new window. Only open the external links in a new window. :)

Honestly, while you have some good advice here, you really need to see what works for you. Try both. Try a mixture and see.
I dont think Google much cares about the target, as long as you have all the right attributes to the code. |
