If you just want a shared hosting plan, i would tell you to with servage.net.
5000GB transfer a month, 510gb harddisk, control panel and autoinstallers etc included for 6,35-7,50€a month (about 10$ a month) + a free domain.
I have used them for a year until my site was to big/heavy to be supported there.

AVOID servage and hostgator.

you should avoid them if you have a big site that uses a lot of server resources, then you should rent a dedicated server. Otherwise servage etc is fine
