The Republicans don't have much else to choose from at the moment.
McCain and some of the other big names, such as Romney were lucky to get several thousand to an event while Palin was routinely bringing in crowds, even right up to the end, numbering in the many tens of thousands riveling the size of some of Obama's rallys.
With all that said, I think it's more likely Palin will focus on running for U.S. Senate in Alaska (heck, she could in theory resign and then be chosen to take Steven's place, if he's forced out), like Hillery did in New York state, as opposed to the Presidency.
