You know I am a commited student of all these trends so this is my hunch based on trying to figure out the same question and seeing that strip club stuff in the same light as you. First off anything different or taboo in some way is going to get a reaction. Next, I think it has a strong appeal to submissive guys who might not be quite ready for the next step which would require taking on more dark and dangerous S&M style stuff. Finally, There is something certainly erotic now in porn when people actually leave on their clothes because the scenario repeated ad nauseum in most content out there is clothes off in seconds, get to the hard anal in a minute or so, and cum on the nose so punctual you could set your watch to it.
