I think 8mm would look better than HD digital, for low budget horror.

Plus low light and HD is extremely difficult, specially with a cam under $10K.

well, there's a way to get Hi8 to look like identical to 8mm. They did it in Pulp Fiction. I am just saying, in my opinion, a low budget horror movie should have that certain look to it, and I think HD would ruin that.

Canon Xh1a is awesome in low light. Amazing really. Bout 3600.00 Above that I would say go with Canon XL H1A which is bit short of 7k. Never used the XL.

Here is a clip from XH A1

mikesouth 11-16-2008 09:43 PM

tony404 gave you good advice anyone telling you NOT to shoot in HD is an idiot. If you dont shoot HD you will have no market for it outside of youtube.

hey bro..even Obama and Mccain are meeting on Monday..surely we can get along too..lol

Thanks, On the doll is making the rounds at the film festivals. RAZOR is being shopped at SAM RAMI's company GHOST HOUSE ( 30 days of Night, The Grudge) I'll know something this week on that.

As for these horror movies..I want to do them in house, full control with distribution from FANGORIA..so I need to keep them cheap.. with a heathy amount of T and A

That's awesome. I love horror movies. If you ever need some promotion done for them, let me know. I run a few horror sites. Either way, good luck. I hope this works out for you. I need some more horror movies to watch. :D

Check out the clips I posted above. I think the Canon's either one will do great for you.

I'd go with the EX1 or EX3. Pretty sweet cams. :thumbsup

aniloscash 11-16-2008 10:58 PM

panasonic hvx200 films at 24 frames so its more film like and less video. I have used a 35mm lens adapter on it and that really looks exactly like film.

they have a new one or have a new one on the way that uses normal SD flash memory instead of the P2 card.

1 min video = 1 GB storage these days you can get a 1TB drive for not much. great workflow when your pure digital and tapeless.
