FLV or DivX??

I'm setting up 4 new sites and I'm having embeded video trailers on all 4 sites.

My question is which is the best format to use FLV or DivX

I'm not talking in terms of quality, more in terms of compatibility with visitors browsers.

Any help would be great

Thanks

Quality matters more than quickness, especially with short trailers. I use Adobe Flash Encoder using the On2 VP6 codec. Or you may try Sorenson Squeeze or Videocharge or Flix Pro.

Take a look at http://www.applian.com/replay-converter/index.php

Don't know if it's "The Best", but worked quite well for me ~2 years ago

flv....divx is going down the drain....now with h.264 (x264) codec support for flv

BSleazy 11-19-2008 09:38 AM

There's a free one available called SUPER. If you do a search in google you can find it. It's not all that great but it works.

Exactly.

DA MAN has spoken.
:thumbsup:thumbsup

I'd go with H.264 for something that will last, and quality, but for current compatibility, FLV wins hands down.

Zorgman 11-19-2008 10:07 AM

I agree. FLV

All of them are "quick" its your computer processor speed that will make the difference. I run a dual core Athlon 4800+ and the converter does a 4 minute WMV in about 15 seconds. My old computer it took almost 30 minutes.

Upgrade your computer if it takes too long... seriously. :2 cents:

DutchTeenCash 11-19-2008 10:19 AM

divx or HQ wmv

germ 11-19-2008 12:54 PM

FLV FTW :thumbsup

hornycult 11-19-2008 12:58 PM

FLV and option for downloading WMV :winkwink:

Nordicprofits 11-19-2008 01:52 PM

go for flv

doridori 11-19-2008 01:52 PM

the only problem i have with h.264 in flv is that you need a pretty powerful server to encode (ffmpeg x264), and encoding takes a lot longer....however you end up with (almost all the time), with lower video size and higher quality.

also if the end-user's computer is very slow, then he will have problems watching it.

FreeHugeMovies 11-19-2008 02:14 PM

FLV not even a question

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 11-19-2008 02:15 PM

Divx will eventually try to sue you unless you buy their liscense. Thats why deluxe pass went to xvid years ago. They got threatened by divx, but they had the infrastructure to re-render 10,000 dvds to xvid from divx. Im sure divx was pissed because they saw a cash cow slip through their fingers... Trust me.. FLV.

The same is true of H.264.

Flash player 9.0.115 as of Sep '08 has 90% penetration.

flv. for sure!
