What is the best way to keep track of your hits?
What is the best, most simple, and easiest way to keep track of your hits?
Google Analytics? I'm looking for something that is simple to use and understand, this seems to be the best option so far. Something that I can show my traffic history if I want to sell my site at a later date and have ample proof of it's worth. Also, what is the best method of hit tracking for sales and referring url's if you are using one domain but many different ad campaigns with different traffic sources. Basically so you know which traffic source your sales are coming from. I know I have a shit load of traffic that I've been too lazy to get the most out of because I'm turning a good profit.. I need to monetize badly. Any help would be greatly appreciated, much obliged. |
Nothing beats serverlogs
Google Analytics? is JS based, and some browsers have JS disabled That is why SErverlogs are the only 100% true tool you can use. http://www.webtrends.com/ <- great http://www.sawmill.net/ <- enterprice level |
I wonder what percentage of users have JS disabled..
Fuck.. I use a JS redirection code to hide the sales referral url from my sponsors so they can't copy my campaigns... and yes it has happened more than once. Now i'm wondering what is the best way to do this too.. lol. |
Fuck Javascript.
Use DHTML. Been using it for many many years, am I the only one who doesn't lose surfers with wrong (read: non) redirecting and silly 1998 style http 302 or meta refresh redirecting ? DHTML and DNS redirecting is the way to go these days... update your knowledge. |
I will give DHTML a shot for sure, anything has to be better than javascript.
But my main problem is needing a clear simple method of hit tracking for not only things like traffic history, but also a clean method of tracking referral url's and sales from one traffic source to another using the same domain. Any help would seriously be appreciated, trying to do things right from the ground up this time around. Much appreciation as always folks. |
As already mentioned, only server stats are reliable.
Try AWStats, it's one of the best free webserver log analyzers. Have a look to their website for a feature overview and manuals. |
