US Customs looked through about 40 DVDs worth TS conent of mine today

As I was entering LA, I was flagged to have my bags look at. I usually never travel with porn but I was running behind and didn't have time to hit fedex before I left. The guy asks me what are all the DVDs of and asked if they were porn based on some of the titles. I said yes, I produce adult videos. I wasn't going to lie to the guy but after 3 hours of them looking at EVERY FILE I had, I wish I would have.

They took me into an office and 2 of them, both beaners, went DVD (for file storage) by DVD looking at every photo, IDs, scanned model releases, all of it... ALL TRANNIES!!!

One of the dip shits actually asked me, "how can you tell the transvestites from the women?" and my reply was, "Well... since you don't know I'll let you in on a little secret... girls don't have dicks." He didn't find that funny and asked me, "seriously, how can you tell?" which at that point I just told him I'm often fooled and don't know they are "transvestites" until I get them naked.

Three hours later I was handed my passport and told I was entered into the computer for what they found today. I asked them why, the content wasn't illegal and they found nothing illegal, but they said it was just policy and I would probably be checked every time I enter the country. Then they went on to tell me how many people in the world are into sick things like child and animal sex, followed by how one time Ron Jeremy walked through there and he looked sad. This fucking beaner agent then had the audacity to ask me if they people in my line of work were all depressed and lived sad lives like Ron Jeremy, but then asked if I knew Jenna Jameson and if she was pretty in real life. WTF!!!????!!!!

I've been out of the USA for 13 months for reasons just as this. This country has it's head up it's ass further than I even though. I'm now flagged on Immigration / Customs computer and will be searched every time I enter the country because I shoot legal content with models above the age of 18 and I proved this to them, one model at a time. Un-fucking-real.

Fuck the USA and all the beaners working in Customs and Immigration at LAX. :321GFY

""Well... since you don't know I'll let you in on a little secret... girls don't have dicks." He didn't find that funny"

BusterBunny 11-23-2008 04:31 PM

I actually demanded I watched them view the content because I was afraid of piracy. They assured me they could not steal it, but I insisted. You never know...

d-null 11-23-2008 04:44 PM

the border can be a fucked up place, it feels like you have no rights at all there, and you are at the mercy of the mood of the dude they hired with the uniform on whether he wants to give you a hard time or not

smart, just cause they were too dumb to know how to copy doesn't mean the next shift doesn't:thumbsup

I wouldn't be so sure that this is just a USA issue. You could very well have received the same treatment or even worse if you were carrying all that porn into many other countries including Canada and many European countries or even the third world hellhole that you came from, Thailand. At least they didn't confiscate the material. Not sure if you had left backups at home, but that could have been a disaster!

BradM 11-23-2008 05:12 PM

US Customs agents make next to nothing, and are usually rejected cops. Imagine how pissed off you'd be if you had their life.

The Duck 11-23-2008 05:17 PM

I have traveled all over the world and I dread crossing the border back into the US more than anywhere else I've been and I'm a citizen! It feels like I am entering a police state. I've visited communist countries and felt more "freedom" crossing the border than I do in my home country.

Ayla_SquareTurtle 11-23-2008 05:34 PM

So US customs can look at anything they want to look at on your computer? If some married couple comes through after their honeymoon and has a private tape of themselves on their laptop or on a cell phone, or hell, even on an SD card for their camera or something, can these guys just sit there and watch it? If you have private financial information in files, can they look at that too? What if you encrypt the files? Fuck, so many questions. That's crazy.

aico 11-23-2008 05:37 PM

So I'm still confused, how to you tell the trannies from real girls?

They can go through anything you bring over the border. Period.

This includes being able to legally go through every file on your computer one by one if they want and even copy the entire contents of your laptop/external drive/thumb drive/whatever.

There's only one solution that actually works :

http://www.truecrypt.org

It's free... you can create virtual drives IN virtual drives that are completely invisible.

If they ask for a password you give the password of the first virtual drive.

It's completely legal to do so.

Good Luck.

yeah, and you have no legal recourse..... border agents aren't bound by the same laws that regular cops are, they are pretty much above the law

Ron Bennett 11-23-2008 06:42 PM

Customs searches of computer data brought across the border has been going on way, way before 911.

Be glad they didn't confiscate the data and/or copy it. They easily could have, if they'd wanted to.

FedEx is certainly a good work-around, but not fool-proof when it to Customs. A better way is to upload the data via a secure VPN prior to departure.

TrueCrypt is a good compremise of security and privacy, if one believes that Customs will only do a cursory look at one's computer - ie. ask to turn it on, do a browse of the default My Documents / My Pictures folders.

If they choose to do a more through search, they may stumble upon the TrueCrypt software (or signs of it, such as a password screen) - just the mere existance of such encryption may be enough to arise suspicions - and once Customs get going, as the OP found out, they will spend a seemingly endless amount of time examining everything.

That is some stupid shit man. Glad they let you go on your way, but damn that had to suck balls man.

But, I have to say. If the guy had asked me how you could tell they were trannies, I'd said the same thing. Kinda a stupid question actually, He should have been more specific if he didn't want that kinda answer...;)

US Customs has so much power to fuck with people.

They worked my brother in law over really good for not declaring cash he was carrying on him for his business. He couldn't get through airports in this country for years without be harrassed and humiliated every time.

It's funny you should say that because one of them actually said to me after I started to grow tired of their shit, "you know if this was Mexico we would not have to be so nice to you right now and could make things much worse for you." The fuck whit actually said this to me. My reply was, "But we are not in Mexico and I am a United States citizen standing on American soil with rights and laws that used to protect those rights." This shit for brains could only rely with, "yes, but if you were in Mexico..." and I cut him off and said, "but we're not" then turned my back on him to pay attention to the nice agent. This beaner was truly a shit for brains.

I've been traveling around the world for over 10 years now. I've literally been all over and can say without question, entering the USA or dealing with US airport security is the WORST I have ever encountered in all my travels. Even in the shittiest countries, the staff is still kind and very helpful. In the USA it's all egos, bad attitudes and mostly unfriendly people. I always dread returning to the USA for this reason. I used to have to fly through Chicago O'hare when I lived in the midwest... OMFG... it was a nightmare. Pissed off, fat, skank ass black bitches running that place and you always run late and/or have canceled flights. What a mess that place is.

And yes, I always have back ups.

That's totally fucked up. Not surprising, given the average American's attitude of, "why should I care if they detain and search me if I have nothing to hide?"

The border patrol is getting way out of bounds around here, too and it's totally sickening how few people are afraid of living in a police state. They *love* it!

Spunky 11-23-2008 10:41 PM

This happened 3 years ago to a producer friend of mine...

DWB,

Every time now, when you enter the USA customs and show your passport, the homeland security agent will see a red flag on their computer screen and they will have you go to an office and sit you down and ask you questions for an 30 min to an hour or so, for the next 12-24 months .. Then, you will be purged out of the system..

Shitty stuff considering you are shooting legal adult entertainment...

They should be looking for terrorists , drugs and chemicals for making bombs not legal porn!

The thing that really pissed me off is, I'm clean. They found nothing illegal, not even close. Yet I was still put into the computer system to make future returns a pain in the ass for me.

That means, I was guilty even after I proved to them (by them checking every ID I had) I was innocent. I am now going to be punished for all future entries into the country for FOLLOWING THE LAW and doing the right thing, not breaking it. What a joke.

That's good to know. Guess I'll just have to stay gone for two more years and knee deep in exotic pussy. Damn.

Hmmmm.... next time in maybe I should bring in a bunch of nasty bareback creampie gay content for them to look at.

pamon 11-23-2008 11:38 PM

that sucks... on trips to Thailand, Philippines, and Costa Rica on pure vacation, I was always pulled aside as a single male traveler. I came back into Houston once and the failed cop, aka customs officer, kept on rifling off questions. Why was I there, When, and he finally asked me why I travel solo. I asked him if he wanted to come next time and would his wife allow him? He got pissed and let me go. I walked 5 steps outta the area, called him an asshole, and promised never to cross back into the US via Houston.

Welcome back to the US. Your home of failed cops & rental cops.

Listen to Kevin Mitnik's episode of TWIT (tech podcast) on how he encrypts his stuff and it's amazing. Awesome 15-20 minutes of tech security talk for travelers.

Get a NEXUS card. Then you can go through the machine.

Seriously, though, it doesn't matter what country you go to, the customs officer can screw with you if he's having a bad day. Except Canada. We don't give a shit here.

I was in Boston a few weeks ago. On my way there, the US customs asked me "Do you have relatives from Lebanon?" I said yep. He said, "Have a nice trip."

And I agree. Those angry black ladies at security can get on your nerves. One of my shoes always sets off the metal detector and they wave their wand and then assume it is from something in the shoe, so they tell me to keep walking. But one angry overweight black lady in Calgary made me take them off and x-ray them. And she waved the wand on my socked feet.

And in Denver, two teenage security officers started playing with my umbrella. But because it is automatic, when she opened it, she couldn't figure out how close it. So she told the guy to close it, and they started arguing with each other. You close it, no you close it, no you opened it, you close it.

In Egypt, they wanted to search us, and we said no. And then he had the nerve to ask for a tip.

RevengeBucks_Monica 11-24-2008 02:01 AM

If you had been in Mexico, they would have thrown you in jail. Pornography is illegal there, at least according to what I read recently.

But as you say, it was the U.S. What is frightening is that the U.S is actually allowed to randomly confiscate anyone's laptop without any reason for suspicion, and they can keep it for as long as they want. They can also copy all data off of that laptop and keep that information indefinately.

Basically, when you carry a laptop across the border, you are opening your life to the gov't as far as I can tell. When I cross the borders next month, I plan on crossing with a brand new laptop that has never seen porn and will only access things via ftp as I need them and then delete them again.

From my own experience, I've found most border people to be quite friendly. They tend to get treated very poorly as people in general don't like them, so if you are nice and chat, they sometimes relax and act quite nice to you. I've had a few that were a little uppity though.

Jesus, i hope a customs agent never asks me that, i would be REALLY REALLY REALLYoffended! I would tell them my life story and they would be FORCED to subject themselves to listen to all of it because they ASKED FIRST.

This is what I would say:

"First of all, what is wrong with traveling solo? Why do people give me a hard time when I want to eat alone in a restaurant or go to the theater or movies alone? Why does it go against society norms to want to be alone. Why am I being punished for being alone? What is suspicious about a person traveling alone? Do you also think it's abnormal that I like to be alone and do everything alone? Is there a rule that says you have to do activities with other people?

I do not have many friends. My one friend that I do have cannot afford to travel, am I supposed to pay for their ticket? I do not have a significant other. I like to be alone. Why is that a crime?"

That's discrimination, thinking that way of someone because they are alone. I do everything alone! I cannot wait for someone to question me about why I am alone, I cannot wait to give it to me. I will torture then for 5 hours about my life and rant on and on because they started it first.
