Good luck man! Smoking doesn't bring any good.
I started a year ago, and will have to stop it soon.

I stopped last May it is very hard BUT did you know the craving for a cigarette only lasts for approx 2-4 minutes then it goes, When I found that out every time I had the craving I would do some exercise or get stuck into some work on the PC, it worked for me. Good luck man :thumbsup

Bojangles 11-24-2008 07:14 AM

Good luck.

That is so true! :thumbsup I stopped for 8 days now and whenerver I get the feeling for a smoke, I try to concentrate on something else and before I know time flies and the feeling is over.

WinstonTriplexcash 11-24-2008 07:21 AM

gotta quit smoking myself... smoked for over half of my life and I need to stop some time. Preferrable before it kills me.

Spunky 11-24-2008 07:22 AM

You can do it!

smutnut 11-24-2008 07:25 AM

I haven't had a cigarette the entire year of 2008 so far. I tried to stop hundreds of times before and couldn't do it. Eventually it just clicks if you keep trying. I sort of used to patch (tons of times) to get me started.

Before quitting I was somewhere between 3-5 packs a day. Try and concentrate on how much money it will save you (even if you don't give a fuck). That logic works a little too.

Funny I didn't stop drinking at all. In fact I probably drink more than that now and am thinking of stopping that for 2009.

I did stop any type of drug use though (You don't need to extra enhance boredom and restlessness you'll get from long lasting uppers).

3-5 packs a day?? Holy shit!! At most I smoked 2 packs, but that was in a time where I was mostly sitting staring at a wall (literally). I do have however smoked most of my life. Started very young... last year I have smoked maybe 10-12 a day.

I really was sick for a smoke today, but worked instead..... The cool think is that I can feel my breath getting better, just after 3 days! Another cool thing is that now I don't want smoke anymore. I feel more calm now. But fuck, those cigarettes really get you by the balls! :) Luckily I do not drink much and do not do any kind of drugs. Makes me think "what CAN I do?? Start sport"??

Good luck to c0ld! 8 days - excellent! to winstonNichedsites: quit with me now :) Just do it! The rest of you, great job quitting and thanks for the "good lucks" !

Hang in there! How long have you tried this time? I am sure that after a week the worst craving will be over...... :)

CaptainHowdy 11-24-2008 09:48 AM

Try your best for a little more than a week and you will start to feel much better...

brassmonkey 11-24-2008 09:57 AM

cherrylula 11-24-2008 10:17 AM

You didn't quit if you started up again. That's called stopping, not quitting. :1orglaugh

So good luck quitting! :)

I quit after my heart attack and managed to start up again, but I did manage to quit again too. Just cold turkey really.
I ran myself out of smokes one night and just determined that that was it. I was not buying anymore. Over the course of the next few days, I smoked the butts from my ashtrays. Yes I admit it! Yeah it's gross as all hell. Thats what an addiction does to you. So for a few days, maybe 10 days, I rationed out my BUTTS from my ashtray then made a point to throw out all the refuse from my house. To prevent the urge to look for a butt in the garbage.
When all my valuable little stash was gone, I smashed my remaining ashtrays into pieces and buried them in the dumpster forever. Say goodbye! Mourne the passing of an old "friend" because as you know, you do suffer a feeling of loss. But it's good riddance!
:pimp

All who love are blind
Oh, when your heart's on fire
You must realize
Smoke gets in your eyes

Keep it up man! Make up your mind that you will never ever have a cigarette again. If you can convince yourself that, it'll be easier. You have to remember that if you quit and you have just one cigarette even a few years later, the habit will be back full force, so the only way to quit for good is to never have a cigarette again. If you'll do some research you'll see what I mean...

I quit cold turkey 9 months ago after smoking over a pack for 11 years and I haven't looked back. I will not have a cigarette ever again in my life, and I already feel much better because of quitting.

A good resource site:

www.quitnet.org

It has a cool little tool in it. My stats are based on the time I stopped, with no price increases figured in:

Your Quit Date is: 8/13/2001

Time Smoke-Free: 2661 days, 8 hours, 44 minutes and 17 seconds

Cigarettes NOT smoked: 93148

Lifetime Saved: 23 months, 21 days, 13 hours

Money Saved: $15,134.44

Hang in there!
