Samsung Refrigerator Surged After 1 Year

This fridge has suffered the surges of 2 hurricanes in the year I've had it... but last night it died.

It's a $2500, 1 year old, Samsung French Door model...

We were installing a ceiling fan yesterday.. and hubby is a pussy and wanted the entire breaker box turned off...

and that surged my refrigerator.

It's 2 mos out of warranty.

WTF is this shit? My parents had their fridge for like 18 years. lol

I have a Lowes Extended Warranty... but they told me I need to make a good faith effort to find my receipt...

uh huh.
We will see how that goes.
And it's 2 mos out of the manufacturer warranty.

Bah.

Put your fridges on a surge protector.

Did you pay for it on a card or some method where it will be shown on a statement? That could be sufficient proof, or at least allow them to look up the charge in their own records... surely they must have your NAME on file as part of the warranty service...

PSSuperstars 11-24-2008 05:26 AM

Actually I just went through my kitchen junk drawer... and it was at the bottom.
Thank GOD.

On hold with Lowes Customer Support now.
They're telling me Dec 4th.. but trying to get me something sooner because of the holiday.

Uh... it's a samsung french door, yo. Stainless. Most of your stainless side by sides in the normal brands are 1900+...
Have you shopped for Sub Zero's or Jenn Air's before?
They're like 5k+

WinstonTriplexcash 11-24-2008 05:59 AM

Thanks for the heads up, I too have a samsung ref.

PSSuperstars 11-24-2008 06:03 AM

They can't come out til Dec 1st... I'm on standby for anything earlier.
But they said I can go pick something out at the store @ 25% of my fridges value.. and they will pay for it.
So I'm going to go get a small garage fridge....

Update:
Tomorrow at 8am they will be fixing my fridge :)

yay.

Thanksgiving with my mother in law was going to be bad enough.. lol cooking thanksgiving dinner out of a garage fridge was going to be even worse.

YAY I'm so happy.

I should tip the service dude, right? For coming out so last moment/notice?

My samsung fridge is a few years old and I have had a bunch of issues with it also.... Water in the door not working, frosted over, not chilling correctly, etc... I have a smaller one (dont know the brand) in my garage that has been running without an issue for 15 years...

gornyhuy 11-24-2008 08:10 AM

Maybe you just popped a fuse or something. I don't think there is much in a fridge that would completely die like that from a surge caused by throwing the breaker on and off. :2 cents

So tell me, mr. confederate flag,
what brand would you recommend that was American?
because I can show you threads like this for almost all of them.

BradM 11-24-2008 12:07 PM

Elite fridge blowing upping.

stickyfingerz 11-24-2008 12:08 PM

If Lowes won't help call Samsung. They are usually friggin awesome on warranties.

PSSuperstars 11-24-2008 12:24 PM

Guy is here now :)
Apparently the dude who owns the appliance servicing place.. recognized our address..

PSSuperstars 11-24-2008 12:45 PM

Well he just left.
The motherboard is fried.
They have to order another one.

Rorschach 11-24-2008 12:58 PM

Samsung is a shitty b-grade brand with a-grade prices.

I had that happen with my G.E. stainless fridge. They had to come out twice to get it right.

Deej 11-24-2008 01:09 PM

Samsung is shit!!! They should stick with TVs!!!!

Get a Frigidaire :2 cents:

AK 11-24-2008 01:12 PM

I bought 5 year plan from BestBuy, not a big fan of BestBuy but had no choice.

tranza 11-24-2008 01:13 PM

they run that much now a days toots. From $800-2500+ for a decent one. Priced them yesterday for new house.

C-Bass 11-24-2008 01:23 PM

Good thing you posted this!!!

i was about to buy a Samsung fridge (the 35" bottom freezer monster!) but i was a bit iffy on Samsung making fridges.....cell phones and monitors are fine.

Me thinks i shall go with the LG.

PSSuperstars 11-24-2008 01:56 PM

Okay. My Lowe's extended warranty plan is now telling me it has to be a RENTAL at 25% of the original purchase price... Dude that would be like a Sub Zero walkin, LOL for $499/week LOL

I'm so pissed. They're willing to pay the 500ish for a rental... but not give me 500 towards the purchase of a cheap garage fridge... That's because they know that there's no RENTAL out there for 500/week.

The burnt motherboard should take a few days to replace.. and I'm out a fridge for Thanksgiving. :(

Hubby says to just fuck Lowes.. and we go get a cheapie replacement at Home Depot for the garage..
