Thinking about getting a forum script for a site...

I've been thinking about setting up a forum for one of my sites. What do you guys think, is it worth it?

Also what script would you recommend? (vbulletin?)

vBulletin, dont even mess with anything else.

Yes, vbulletin.

Is a forum a good idea? Depends on the site.

They can be a lot of work to run and establish. The good thing about the latest release of VB is you get lots of social web 2.0 features as standard (like friend adding, profile comments). You have the script-power to setup a fully-functioning community. But like I said it takes a lot of effort to run. The question : is all that time worthwhile?

Why does it take a lot of work to run? Moderating or technical stuff?

Thanks

vBulletin. If you need any help, hit me up. I'd be glad to help you. I love working on message boards. Right now, I'm working on a couple with Zuzana Designs (Sarah).

Nah, the technical stuff is a piece of cake.

The time-consumption comes from moderation. Like I say, it depends on the site. If you run a porn forum it will require A LOT of moderation.

I actually love forums, so I'm not knocking the idea. They're a great way to make a site sticky and develop a user-base of loyal consumers. You just have to figure out your opportunity cost. How is your time best spent? Running a forum...or something else?
