I can't believe another hosting thread. Dude if you do a search you will see many of the same names over and ovetr again. No write down the names that get repeated, then cross of those that have either downtime threads or bad support threads. You will be left with a few and then conteact each of those and then see what they can offer you. I personally like www.techiemedia.com also mojohost and phatservers.:2 cents::2 cents:

Bingo.

I have a number of clients and I deal with their hosting; National Net is still by far the best. Their response times are stunning.

A good case in point was a problem I had with another hosting company last week. I was physically unable to see any of the sites are the server, put in a ticket, and it took hours to fix. With National Net it would have taken five minutes.

National Net rocks.

TripleXPrint 11-25-2008 09:47 AM

I don't understand why all of you webmasters don't have your own web server and still use hosting companies. You can use a standard DSL as the connection and get the same upstream as you would (and probably better) than most hosting companies. And you have 100% full control over it.

You're already paying for internet access so just use that and you save yourself a shitload of money.

A standard PC computer - $350
Internet Connection - $25 a month
LINUX/PHP/MySQL - Free

It really is a no-brainer and setting up a web server is so easy a retarded person could do it. And if you don't know Linux or how to manage your server you can always purchase a cheap Cpanel bundle that gives you the exact same interface you have with your current host (in most cases).

If you're on a cable connection then do not run your own web server, especially if you have Brighthouse as your carrier. It's against most of their TOS and they will kill your service if you don't upgrade to their $500 a month plan. Shop around and find a good DSL ISP and ask them for a static IP address. Then you're set and could be hosting your own sites will full control.

porndotnet 11-25-2008 09:59 AM

datapipe & phatservers are excellent all the way around.

teenieflixxx 11-25-2008 10:02 AM

Swiftwill is the best 5 years no downtime
if you want anything done you make a ticket and its done in 20 mins or less

and if you need to contact them they are almost always on AOL 24/7

LoriAnderson 11-25-2008 10:04 AM

Mojo Host Rocks:thumbsup

RobertD 11-25-2008 10:05 AM

NationalNet.

fallenmuffin 11-25-2008 10:06 AM

I use Phatservers and Webair. However, I'll be dropping webair in the coming weeks. Next year I'll be getting a ded. server - either from Phatservers or NationalNet.

Please ellaborate rather than insult. You don't agree? If so, why not? Show me where anything I posted is incorrect and I'll prove you wrong. :2 cents:

Lightning 11-25-2008 10:29 AM

It's been said ove and over again, but Techiemedia is by far one of the best host in todays marker. Best support bar none and only high quality bandwidth and at the same prices as low budget hosts. Don't waste your money on a host with old (too high) pricing.:2 cents:

I know your trying to troll, but you and I both know it's against the TOS of any residential service provider to run any kind of httpd service on a home connection, despite your selling point of "You can save yourself a shitload of money". Nothing like putting all your eggs in one basket and being shut down completely because your violating the TOS.

:disgust

I'm not trolling, just stating facts. You're the one coming in and tossing around insults. I've been using Verizon residential service to host my sites for almost 4 years. They were even nice enough to issue me a static IP address when I contacted their customer service and requested one. I even gave them the reason why I needed a static IP. Not a peep about breaking their TOS. I also had my connection lost once and I contacted Verizon and they helped me troubleshoot the problem after I told them what I was using the service for. They block port 80 to try to dissuade people from doing it but you can always change it to a different port like 8080 and you're fine as long as you forward it correctly.

Four years of uninterrupted service, running my own web server with multiple sites that receive a shit load of traffic and Verizon's technical support helping me troubleshoot my connection after telling them what I was doing. I wouldn't say that was putting all my eggs in one basket. I run backups every night and in case they DID shut off my service I could easily sign up for any hosting account and be back online within a couple hours.

Putting your eggs in one basket is hoping that the hosting company you're dealing with is managed properly and just doesn't disappear overnight. Wouldn't that suck not being able to download your backups because the hosting company went out of business and liquidated all their servers. :helpme

Just Google "Verizon DSL web server" - there were too many valid links for me to post here but you'll get the idea. Anything else? :warning

fris 11-25-2008 11:00 AM

running on your home computer, what happens if you have a burst in traffic? remember when people download off you, you are uploading to them, and uploading is usally capped.

Good luck if you get more than 10 people downloading at once

woj 11-25-2008 11:10 AM

Yeah, why would I want the headache of managing my own box when I can afford to have someone else manage it for me, and is paid to manage it properly? This is another reason why hosting it is practical, not everyone here is broke like you assume. :2 cents:
