Toothache/jaw pain - help!!!

I have never had any pain from my jaw. This pain feels like it is coming from my the lower back left jaw muscle. I don't know if my teeth back there have moved or what but they feel like they arent lining up any more. Like they dont make contact on that side. Anyone experience this ?

Supz 11-26-2008 10:33 AM

I would go get it check out. I had a similar thing earlier this week. Ended up being an infection in the root of one of my molars. Had to have surgery.

CaptainHowdy 11-26-2008 10:36 AM

Maybe you're grinding your teeth while sleeping?

Dwreck 11-26-2008 10:37 AM

This is what I had, and it got infected. Out of the blue one day my cheek looked like it was hiding a baseball. I do not recommend putting this on hold. It will only get worse.

P.S. How are you dwreck, we met at inext in fl, how have you been since?

tranza 11-26-2008 11:25 AM

That must hurt a lot!

Probably feels misaligned because of swelling. If you feel a bump on your gum then it's probably the sore spot.. a pus area surrounding the infection. If you have to wait to see a dentist, then try some GLY-OXIDE directly at the tooth/gum line and let it work a few minutes. Good stuff.

Go see this doctor :

Fuck that, you're better off asking for help on GFY. It's always worked for me.

Take an aleve and then head for the dentist. the aleve should reduce any swelling allowing the teeth to resettle into position.

Kard63 11-26-2008 01:05 PM

Fuck now my ear on that side hurts

I had all 4 yanked a long time ago. They were not painful but there wasn't enough room for them and I would have never been able to stop wearing a retainer if I kept them, lol.

Running cold water down the side of your face should help reduce some of the pain, it will also help reduce/slow the infection from spreading, your best bet is to get to the doctors/dentist, this type of infection can be deadly... it can affect your facial bones in a very bad way if not taken care of.

The dentist wont be able to work on your tooth till the infection is gone, he/she will prescribe some drugs to get rid of it.

I didn't have anything quite that bad, but I did have to get my first of 5 root canals yesterday. It was the last molar on the bottom left, and it is still feeling a bit sore today. The nerve was so irritated that it took 6 shots of Novocaine so that she could start working on it.

All I can say is I am happy I got it done before the long weekend, 'cause life would have really sucked otherwise. I guess the lesson is don't wait 6 years between dental visits.

A former neighbor of mine died from attempting to self medicate when he had tooth problems. Instead of going to the dentist, he decided to tough it out by taking painkillers. By the time he finally got to the dentist, he had to be admitted in the hospital. Too late though, the infection had spread to his brain and he was fucked. He was 24.

Don't wait, don't delay. Tooth infections can kill.

Oh yeah, brush and floss at least twice a day with one of these and use Listerine.

What's the worst that can happen? Fresh breath and no cavities?

Gary_TLX 11-28-2008 02:47 AM

Have to agree with everyone, go see a dentist as soon as possible. Infections in your mouth are not to be taken lightly.

I'm never paying a dentist again.

is it just me or did that look really easy?
WAY easier than the $300 a dentist charges for the same thing!

iMind 11-28-2008 02:54 AM

if you have tooth pain, Rinse with salt water,
take 3 advil and 3 tylenol and call the dentist.

( yes you can take all those pills.. the dentist told me so, and I love him for it )

borked 11-29-2008 01:20 AM

could also be a blocked sinus - that shit can really hurt and be mistaken for toothache/jawache

grumpy 11-29-2008 06:18 AM

good thing we have so many dentists in here. I think you are asking the wrong crowd

Zorgman 11-29-2008 06:54 AM

I will have my first root canal next week. I watched the process on youtube. I wish I hadn't now. Looks painfull, but hopfully alot better then it currently is.
