johnnyloadproductions 11-27-2008 09:34 PM

Depending on what you need that actually might be a smart thing to do.... I don't feel like catching a cold over getting a good deal though.

DWB 11-27-2008 09:59 PM

All jokes aside, when I was younger (just out of high school) I used to be a ticket broker. Most call it a ticket scalper, whatever... but I used to pay people to sleep out for a long time to get tickets to popular shows. I even slept out a few times myself, sometimes for several nights.

I think the longest I paid people to sleep out was Paul Mccartney, 1 week. Eric Clapton was the second longest with 5 nights.

This was a long time ago before Ticket Master changed the rules and pretty much put an end to getting tickets this way. We'd always have rows 1 - 5 and each person I paid could get 8 tickets each. I'd stock up and sell them out of the news paper. Made a fucking KILLING doing this for a few years.

I saw that people are camping out at local Best Buy stores... why? What kind of deals are out there? I would rather spend the day at home eating leftovers and spend a few extra bucks in a couple weeks when I purchase what I want without hassle or pressure.

Iron Fist 11-27-2008 11:48 PM

Oh this was because of "Black Friday"... supposedly the absolute best deals of the year on this one day, traditionally after Thanksgiving, and marks the start of the Christmas season...

Speaking of TicketMaster - there's an idea ... BestBuy and other retailers with early doorbusters specials could sell front of the line tickets for a premium through TicketMaster in advance.

Canadians call that Boxing day, but up there it's right after Christmas on the 26th, I think. You guys have it better though, it makes a lot more sense to have it before the holidays. :) I never took advantage, I just hate waiting in line-ups way too much.

Geeeez, I haven't even considered shopping yet.

well.. I've been picking things up for months actually, as I come acrosss them.

That's actually not a bad idea. Too small for Ticket Master, but the stores could do it.

Yea man, it was good times.

I'd usually pay bums and drunks to sleep out and then deliver food and booze to them while they were there, then show up and give them the money right when the ticket window opened. They would buy the tickets, hand them to me and then I would pay them something small.

I don't remember the exact numbers but I remember selling Paul Mccartney 3rd and 4th row tickets for something like $1000 - $1200 each. I made almost 50k just off of that one show and I was just out of high school. A little less once you took about newspaper ads and what I paid the bums, so say 48k.

I'd park lots of guys out there for all the BIG shows and just a few for the smaller shows where I could only get a few hundred bucks for a ticket. Rock shows and the like at that time were only going for maybe $200 - $300 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd rows while big names could get $500 - $800+ easy for the same rows.

Ticket scalping got easier after they started wristbands... more people... more locations, no more overnighters, pool the bands from each location according to the random number they always pulled... and they still usually had the 8 tick per person limit... If you feel like dealing with the stress, their is still a lot of money there...

tranza 11-28-2008 04:31 AM

damn, a bunch of strange kids... hehehehe

Actually... "Boxing Day" is NOT the same as our "Black Friday" Boxing day is when you take all the shit you got for Xmas that you don't want, take it back to the store and exchange it or get the cash and go buy what you want. there are deals and sales for that day but it's not anywhere near the same scope as the hell that is Black Friday.

(Stores call Black Friday "Blitz Day" if anyone gives a fuck lol)

update i am gonna go check on them now

Dame 11-28-2008 08:16 AM

I read yesterday that alot of stores will be slashing prices up to around 70% because how the economy is right now. If you can get on some great deals like that, it would be awesome. And with Circuit City filing bankruptcy they might have some good deals going as well.

Kudles 11-30-2008 12:10 PM

Thats funny

I did a similar thing when they switched over to wristbands.
