The power of the mind is amazing

Its so fascinating to me how when you really flip the switch in your mind to positive, and push push push ahead with it, at some point you really do forget about bad shit and function like 200% better.

I've had to deal with a bunch of family drama in the last couple years, unwanted pregnancy dramas, fighting over dead peoples money dramas, she said/he said dramas, and things that just really don't belong in my everyday life and I have had to swat them away.

A few years ago this stuff really affected me badly, but I realized that I did have the power to change the situation, by pulling myself away from it and that is exactly what I have done.

And now months/years later I am feeling so good, having cast off the negativity that was mentally casting a shadow on my well being.

I haven't felt this good in 15 years! I'm not even losing sleep and I almost cannot believe it! Positive thinking is the best. :)

If you have emotional vampires in your life, put on a garlic wreath and free yourself from their treachery.

WebairGerard 12-03-2008 08:51 AM

very true. practice it in daily meditation and it works wonders. :thumbsup

Kristian 12-03-2008 08:51 AM

Good post!

I wholeheartedly agree with you. Positive thinking can work miracles.

RenegadeCash Mark 12-03-2008 08:53 AM

Thats good to hear, keeping a positive mind towards things for sure does
improve everything and make you feel good hey.

Keep your mind positive.

cherrylula 12-03-2008 08:57 AM

yeah the dramas tried to resurface again recently, almost caught me off guard, and I ended up throwing some verbal daggers. It did upset me, but to my surprise with the positive mental state I am in now I woke up the next day and was practically dancing around, it felt so good! Casting them off, although I regret I had to defend myself like that, but I had no choice. The old me would have tried to start WW3 though, so I did really good. :)

Some people can't wait for others to try and start shit with them, but I just didn't have it in me to play. ::pats self on back:: ha ha ha :1orglaugh

Holding a grudge is like taking poison and expecting your enemy to become poisoned.

You will only ever have control over yourself. Kudo's for using your control. :thumbsup

polish_aristocrat 12-03-2008 02:29 PM

on a serious note, you make it sound like it's so easy

lots of weak or insecure people out there who struggle with "emotional vampires" in their lifes

if that was SO easy to change your mind and stop caring, all the shrinks would get unemployed and the pharma industry would get into recession

First smart thing you've ever said and spot on.

wyldblyss 12-03-2008 02:52 PM

I have a slightly different point of view. I understand that family issues can be your biggest drain mentally. Walking away seems so easy. Keeping yourself around only people that keep you positive seems the most simple way to go.

What I have learned though, is bad times teach you things good things never could. Bad times toughen you up, they prepare you to meet a firestorm head on and stand up to it and survive.

I don't think I would change all the hard times I have been through if I could because they gave me the strength to face other things in my life.

I do know that sometimes you have to turn away for your own sanity, but I also know that sometimes you have to stay to learn how to deal with crap and not let it destroy you.

?Optimism is denial, so face the facts and move on?

papill0n 12-03-2008 02:53 PM

Yeah well said cherry - a positive attitude is something everyone can achieve if we just put our minds to it

It is not easy. I quit drinking alcohol on June 7, 2005, and it has taken me that long to really cast off the negativity. LOTS and lots of mental work. I also got married, relocated my life 2,000 miles and have dealt with the loss of close loved ones in that time.

This is only a message board, so my words are watered down into pixels.

I have never seen a shrink, I like to do things on my own. :)

I wouldn't change a thing about my life experiences, its what has made me who I am. Regardless of how painful they may have been.

I can only smile now because its like the scars protect me. :winkwink:

When you've faced the facts long enough, sometimes you realize that arson isn't the only answer, walking away is another option. :1orglaugh

I'm too tired to face the facts anymore, I used to live them!

I been in the right place
But it must have been the wrong time
I'd of said the right thing
But I must have used the wrong line
I been in the right trip
But I must have used the wrong car
My head was in a bad place
And I'm wondering what it's good for

I been the right place
But it must have been the wrong time
My head was in a bad place
But I'm having such a good time
I been running trying to get hung up in my mind
Got to give myself a little talking to this time

Just need a little brain salad surgery
Got to cure this insecurity
I been in the wrong place
But it must have been the right time
I been in the right place
But it must have been the wrong song
I been in the right vein
But it seems like the wrong arm
I been in the right world
But it seems wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong

Slipping, dodging ,sneaking
Creeping hiding out down the street
See me life shaking with every who I meet
Refried confusion is making itself clear
Wonder which way do I go to get on out of here

I been in the right place
But it must have been the wrong time
I'd have said the right thing
But I must have used the wrong line
I'd a took the right road
But I must have took a wrong turn
Would have made the right move
But I made it at the wrong time
I been on the right road
But I must have used the wrong car
My head was in a good place
And I wonder what it's bad for

Vicious_B 12-04-2008 08:53 AM

I always said that what I could not laugh at would kill me. No matter how fucked up a situation you have to find some humor in it to keep you sane.
Case in point and I do realize how messed up this may sound to people but its all about coping. When my mother was dying from cancer she wanted to spare my sister and I as much as possible having to plan her funeral. She arranged almost everything. One night she called me and asked me a favor. She wanted me to take her the next day to the funeral home to pick out her casket. I started joking with her about how we just needed her to point her toes when she died so we could pile drive her in the ground, about how we were just going to rent a nice casket and then bury her in cardboard ect ect. She was right there with me with the jokes, shes the one I get my sense of humor from. It may seem sick to some people but it got us both through an unbearable situation.

I'll put a cherry on top for this quote; "Positive thinking is the best"

Deej 12-04-2008 12:38 PM

I found this out in high school - my science teacher spent a whole day talking about human nature and how YOU CAN CHOOSE YOUR MOOD. you may get shit on or beat down - but in the end you yourself choose your outcome and your mood and even your future.

Sometimes i have to kick it back into gear but it definitely makes me live better :thumbsup
