the US will have to deploy troops to protect the area by the texas border

czarina 12-04-2008 11:29 AM

I just can't wait until the US does something about this. Afterall, all those drugs are heading straight into the US

The cartels hired and trained former soldiers and then when they went down, the mercs took control. There was a really interested "Gangland" show on the entire mess this past weekend.

My wife is from Mexico City, and I absolutely love it there. I have wanted to pack up and move there for some time now, and really do plan on it one day, perhaps soon.

The violence and kidnappings are a real worry for me though, especially with a little light skinned baby boy on my hands. There's no doubt it's a big risk. Simple things like going for a walk with your baby in a carriage are practically unheard of there.

Having said that, I do not and will not walk around life scared. I've been to Mexico many times, the first time via bus from Canada.. (3.5 days!) and I've yet to have a bad experience. I'm lucky though. If I lived there, being robbed is a matter of time, not a matter of if. I know I wouldn't live there without carrying a gun or two at all times. The people of Mexico would call me crazy for this, but it's just life. The police won't protect you, so that leaves it up to me.

If I was being robbed, they can take anything they want, except my family. My car, my clothes, my money, I'll fuckin gift wrap that shit for you. But if you want my family, I'm emptying my gun. If I die or go to jail, then that's life. It could happen anywhere.

if you wanna put yourself at risk and act tough do so, leave your wife and kids out of it, going there = putting your family at risk even if you get hurt and they are not there it will mean they will suffer, avoid the risk I understand you love it there etc but there is a good chance you get hurt right now end of story.

So the gun story and all that is great and you should protect yourself and your family but you should not put yourself in harms way its stupid, its getting worse daily there even with the recent takedowns of some big players, this is not some tiny thug shit there where u get approached with a 22cal junk they got teams there with ak's mp5's and they have tons of grenades this is way above what you can handle or single human with a handgun can.

For now its not a place to go at least the parts that are flooded with this shit and it seems to get worse by the way.

Exactly. Want to boycott actual food from Mexico? Then boycott DelMonte. Almost everything in those cans come from crops in Mexico being fed by contaminated river water anyhow. Yuck!

Huh? I put myself at risk every day by driving my car, should I stop driving to protect my family? Am I being even more selfish when I - gasp - take them in the car somewhere?

Life is full of risks, and dying is part of life. My wife is FROM Mexico.. She has hundreds of family members there.. Am I being ridiculous to, move home?

I'm not saying I'm gonna go start selling drugs or something, shit.. I'd live a non-flashy normal life, take precautions, etc.. But when it comes down to it, I'd rather have my gun in case of emergency, as a last resort.

They don't bring grenades and assault rifles to rob someone on the street man, what kind of movies are you watching? I'm not trying to be a vigilante, just want to protect myself and my family from people who would do us harm.

Seriously you compare driving in your car to walking down the streets of Nuevo Laredo, Mexico?

This is not about robbing people this is about a serious drug war going on now where tons of innocent by standers get killed all the time, when they blasted the cafe not too long ago noone there had anything to do with drugs they where trying to make a point.

Yes im all for carrying guns but im not for putting yourself in situations you do not have to be in.

punker barbie 12-04-2008 02:56 PM

that sucks. 6 years ago when i was 17-18 my friends and i would get a room way south san diego and cab it to the border and walk accross and party on revolution street till 6am looking back im surprised nothing bad ever happend to us.

Looks like you might need a trip down to Mexico to take a step into reality about whats going on here. I LIVE HERE and have for almost 5 years.

I lived In Rosarito Beach just a few min south of Tijuana which is TRULY the murder capital of the world. We spent a lot of time there and even late at night going to the movies and such. MOST of the issues in Mexico are Mexican on Mexican, The only worry for foreigners is going into the WRONG place or getting caught in the cross fire, and as I recall that happens in cities like MIAMI, NY, LA.

I agree that living in Mexico City, especially someone who APPEARS to have money is not the best choice. But there are other places in Mexico to live that are better, I Live in CANCUN. We dont have much problem here with the shootings and drugs, simply because this city brings in more than 50% of the entire countries money from Tourism. With almost 1million people in the city they have more than 4k city and state cops here.

When you go into any city that has crime, and Hrmmm. They ALL DO, you have to be careful. If crime were a reason to NOT LIVE some place. NY LA and MIAMI would be EMPTY.

DaddyHalbucks 12-04-2008 02:59 PM

I am sure there are many beautiful places in Mexico and many nice people, but in my opinion it is too risky, even to visit on vacation.

I really dont understand where you get off comparing the crime level in NYC to parts of mexico, tell this great story to the parents of 100's of girls who where kidnapped in mexico never to be seen again, nuevo laredo has about 300,000 people living there vs nyc 8 million and there where more murders in nuevo laredo in 06 than in NYC, I mean numbers and facts dont lie.

Im happy you are doing well but to say its all great overthere is stupid, its very dangerous now and obviously only in certain areas and people should really do their homework before going there.

But you are saying that ALL of Mexico is dangerous. and its NOT.. Yeah they have some crime issues, but I recall as a kid the last place ANYONE would go was Harlem in NY or Liberty city in Miami.

And sorry to say, but hundreds of children have been kidnapped n NY as well. and never found. The difference is that right now MEXICO is a Hot topic because of immigrants. so they make it look as bad as they can

Just because some border cities are wilding out doesn't mean ALL OF MEXICO is fucked up.....Mexico City is one of the LARGEST cities in the whole world....I've been there and I didn't seen any of that nonsense....

Hell, if that was the case, nobody would even THINK of travelling to the state of New YOrk.

Walking the streets of Kigali, Rwanda was also fine, even when they were cleansing their people.

That has nothing to do with whether or not the country is in turmoil, those numbers in the LA Times warrant such. That said, I would have no issue traveling to Mexico city by myself. But that doesn't mean there isn't a huge problem.

I'm not going to look for stats, however, NYC probably does roughly 500 murders a year. There is not a consistent happening of gun battles in the streets anywhere in the United States.

adult-help 12-05-2008 11:28 AM

I read all above and draw a conclusion that Mexico, surely, not a safeties place on the planet, but this article is a bit exaggerated.

there used to be a mad gang war going on in east palo alto up in the bay area. when i used to deliver beer, we had to have police escorts to the liquor stores there to deliver product. you could actually see the dudes walking around with straps in their pants waistbands. was creepy thinking it was the usa.

heres a link from 1992, the era i'm talking about. thats about the craziest shit in the u.s. i've seen.

http://groups.msn.com/eastpaloalto/murdercapital.msnw

i always wondered why the gov wouldn't send in the national guard to restore peace, but they never did.
