Tagging WP posts and increasing traffic
Random question for those running WP blogs. Does the number of tags added to a post affect the traffic received on your blog? So for example if post #1 contained 5 tags and post #2 had 10, would it affect the # of views?

Have you tested it out yourself to see?

My blogs do best when I cherry pick tags for each article without going overboard; although I will put quite a few on there at times, around 10. Most of the time I'll put 4-7 and seems to work well. For my tags I only go by one of the META keyword rules; don't repeat a word more than three times so Google doesn't think I'm spamming. Whether that helps or not I'm not sure.

The tags should match your article that you are posting. If you are posting about white girls with big tits using tags for Ebony and small tits WONT help you.

Yes and no. You have to consider the function of tags in order to determine how to use them to work toward your SEO goals. For the most part, tags serve a two-fold purpose (at least with blogs), and they are: 1) they provide an extra form of navigation for your human visitors, and 2) they promote interlinking which enables spiders to more effectively crawl your site.
Secondary to the aforementioned purposes, and most importantly for this post, tags can also serve as keywords that you're trying to target. Essentially, you can use tags to adjust the keyword saturation of a single post, or of your index/categories pages. So to answer your question, the amount of tags you use _can_ boost traffic through a well-optimized page, but that doesn't necessarily mean they will. Hopefully this answers your question, and if I'm incorrect in any of the above information, someone will correct me. Good luck! :thumbsup |
