GFY doctors, Ear infection?

So I got an ear infection, it's a bitch, been taking my Amoxicillin from my infection from 2 years ago, not going to a doctor as they will just prescribe me the same thing and charge me $100+ for it. What are some home remedies that you guys use to get rid of this shit?

I put some rubbing alcohol in it, burned like a mother fucker, but it's still there, pain isn't so bad, I can bare it, but the liquid is annoying the fuck out of me, as I can just plug my other ear and it's like I plugged them both, I can't hear shit.

That AMOX from 2 years ago is way expired. It won't work.

A hair dryer to the ear, google it, it helps

Go see an ENT specialist.

Or you could try that ear candling thing... but I've always wondered how people who do it don't feel stupid with a candle sticking out the side of their head.

(that was a joke, in case someone is dumb enough to not pick up on it)

Yeah, but I don't have any insurance and I really don't care to have a doctor prescribe me medication that I already know I need for $150 (the last time I went).

Yeah was hoping it'd work, but I'm assuming it's not.

Amoxicillin isn't an over the counter drug is it? If not, is there any over the counter alternatives?

Do you have a fever or other symptoms besides ear pain and hearing loss?
Most ear infections in adults clear up without medicine within 7-10days however if you spike a fever or are severly congested I'd suggest going to a doctor and getting fresh meds.
I get ear infections quite often, the biggets concern I have is eardrum rupture which has happened a number of times due to pressure from congestion. Also if it is a severe infection that doesn't clear up in a week or so it can spread into your jaw, brain, etc and then you're fucked.
*Note I am not a doctor and suggest you pay the money to see a doctor, without your health life can suck.

That sucks dude... If you don't want to pay, go to an Hospital..

Or do you pay in hospitals too there in the States?

As long as I know, Hospitals are free everywhere.

Good luck.

A hot cloth against your ear should help ease the swelling...

Your economic argument doesn't really stand up though. You have already been in pain for probably several days, which would affect your work and overall demeanor, you will be in pain for many more days until who knows what happens... and should it not get better on its own, you will spend a hell of a lot more than $150 trying to get it fixed. If $150 isn't worth everything I just mentioned... man I just don't know what is.

Sly 12-15-2008 03:14 PM

By the way, where are you going that it's $150? Yes, medical care is expensive but a simple doctor's visit and a basic generic medicine that you can get at Target or Wal-Mart for four dollars shouldn't add up to $150...

www.earcandling.com

i'm a licensed esthetician and worked in a day spa which did ear candling. it does work!! i've had it done and have done this procedure on numerous clients. From surfers who get water and bacteria in their ears to people with chronic ear infections to people who just want to maintain a clean and healthy ear canal. i've done it all and have witnessed results.

you can buy the ear candles online or at most health food stores. but, you will need someone experienced to perform the procedure on you. or find a holistic day spa to do it. they should also supply the product. most places don't charge more than $25 an ear. it's cheaper than going to the doctor and a healthier and holistic way to heal your problem. good luck!

See if you can find something called Auralgean. It's the greatest stuff for the ears ever. Make sure to warm it up a little in your hands before you put it in otherwise it hurts a little.

If you don't have insurance they send you the bill, atleast that's what always happens to me, not 100% sure as I've only gone to the doctor about 4 times since i turned 18 and was on my own, for the last 5+ years

Last ear infection I had I went to the doctor thinking it was a zit that was inside my ear and thought I'd need to get it lanced, they said it was just an infection wrote me out a prescription for amoxicillin which I paid for, and then sent me a bill for $150. I know it's an ear infection, not gonna pay the $150 for them to write me a prescription if theres other ways to get rid of it.

The pain isn't very bad, I sometimes rarely notice it, It's just the fluid in my ears causing me to have very low hearing in it that's annoying me and I want to get rid of that. Gonna goto the pharmacy here in a few and get some ear drops. If I can dry out my ear It should clear up no problem.
