No, but me and the wife saw that infomercial last night and now she wants it. I'm probably going to check it out... like if I really had a choice.

moeloubani 12-17-2008 12:56 AM

This is what Patty will buy me for XMAS gift this year, RosetaStone's Spanish 1,2 & 3.... Then I'll have her for day to day practicing, she already speaks Spanish fluently since her mother is from Madrid and they always speak Spanish at familly reunions :)

The Duck 12-17-2008 10:04 AM

I dont have a pic, but her name is Lesley Ann Machado if you wanna search.

AZSarah 12-17-2008 10:28 AM

I've been wanting to get it for years, but alas I never have.
Maybe Santa will bring it to me?!
Santa, if you read gfy, I would like to learn French please since I already know a little bit of that!
:upsidedow

NaughtyVisions 12-17-2008 10:37 AM

Every time I see those commercials I keep thinking of the old Goth Rock band Rosetta Stone... :2 cents:

Babies learn languages the same way as their method ;)

I learned russian with it, its a good software but depends on your motivation... You really have to spend hours daily to get a real results otherwise its useless, better book a flight to Spain for 3 months and live with a spanish family that only speak spanish... :)

Here is the commercial ft. Lesley Ann Machado : youtube.com/watch?v=k2Vx9Tz6AA0

mona 12-17-2008 11:58 AM

It sucks, at least when I was learning Russian...Pimsleur is the WAY to go!!!

d-null 12-17-2008 12:04 PM

I have used both and find Pimsleur is better, but having both wouldn't hurt

but if you are not using the language every day with real people you are going to be fighting an uphill battle either way :2 cents:

Imortyl Pussycat 12-17-2008 12:57 PM

i have a friend that swears by rosetta stone. she ordered it for both french and spanish for her son and he can now speak both very well. he is 12 and a high functioning autistic child. i'm guessin if he could do it, so could you :thumbsup

Pipecrew 12-17-2008 01:10 PM

I am going to help you all out here and save you about 400 dollars

This is free

http://www.livemocha.com

not only is it better than RS, it also connects you with people in the country of the language you are trying o learn and you get to speak with them.

I think it depends a lot on the way your learn/understand and your skills, if you have good visual and audio memory skills, then ROSETTA STONE is a jewel. Like I said before its identical as babies when they learn a new language...

But I can easily understand you prefer more classical ways like PIMSLEUR, and you are right because it works better with your own style.

At the end, if you are not shy, nothing beat total immersion in the country during 6 months :)

Have a good day.
