Dodge Neon or Chevrolet Cavalier??

I am kinda low on cash right now and I really need a car. I still need something with a minimum of reliability.
Here are my choices. I have found these 2 cars with almost exactly the same descriptions (except the brand).
They are both 2003, both have around the same mileage (50K), both are the same price, both automatic...the only thing that is different is one is a Neon and the other one a Cavalier.

Which one of these 2 is better in terms of quality and reliability?

i dunno but have you considered a used Civic? if reliability is what you're going for you're probably better of with a used honda or toyota

Ayla_SquareTurtle 12-18-2008 06:05 PM

Personally, I'd run screaming from both of them.

Cavalier, it's better then a Neon by far. For the price it's the best you'll get.

Tough call..

I've owned both, and both were brief ownerships

Neon is better on gas, but less reliable
Cavalier is reliable, but fucking gutless..

The neon is a rocket compared to the cav .. yes I see the irony in calling the neon a rocket, but they're fast little cars.

Both will be useless if the milage is over 100k , but the cav will likely go to 200k .. a neon past 150k is a rare thing IMO.

I would consider a civic, the aftermarket parts are dirt cheap, engine swaps, rebuilts and most work in general is cheaper and easier. :2 cents:

Out of all three, I loved my neon the most, sporty little car.. but I totalled it, after replacing just about every part on it :1orglaugh

If I had a choice between those two cars.....

I'd walk.

Cavalier between those two, especially reliability and longevity wise

Supz 12-18-2008 06:32 PM

cav, neon is a complete piece of shit

get a bus pass. they are both horrible.

Yea, you'd be better off with a 10yr old civic, rather than a 5yr old neon or cavalier.

You'll certainly get that with either of those :)

Everyone here drives Ferraris and Bentleys didn't you know that this is GFY, where everyone is a billionaire as long as you don't have to prove it. To be honest find a nice Toyota for real. They are about the most reliable affordable car you will find. When I was 17 I had a corolla and I had 375k miles on it when I sold it and had only had it honestly down one time because the water pump went out.

you should really consider looking for a used Honda Civic. They are very reliable and have a bit of a sporty drive compared to most economy cars. My brother can't kill his early 90s one it has over 250k miles and it's been through hell and back. Really well made cars.

You should have added a third option to the poll "Neither - I'm not a complete fag"

Get a Civic, Accord, Corolla, Camry, etc.

They're comparable in price, retain their value far better, get better mileage, last longer, and are less associated with food stamps and WIC items at the grocery store. :winkwink:
