Fuck. I am getting old.

I can't believe this. 2:30 in the morning, unable to sleep because I am in so much pain.

For the last two or three hours my upper shoulders, up the sides of my neck have been killing me. It is painful just to lay on the couch. I have been running the day through my head. How did I hurt myself?

I rearranged a little firewood, no big deal. I have been bringing logs in to burn, but not that heavy. Did I twist trying to close the door while holding the wood or something? Then it hit me. Metallica.

The pain started about 24 hours after the concert ended. Apparently I can't do four hours of fists over my head, hands waving without feeling it the next day.

I remember my daughter-in-law saying something about the music being too loud. I told her, "if it is too loud, you are too old." I don't know if I am going to tell her about this.

Guess it might be a good time to join a gym again.

Nah, now that I know the cause I know for sure it is muscle pain and not a pinched nerve. I can even mentally relax the muscles for short periods of time.

I spent many years going to the gym daily.

You need concert circuit training... and so do I again... we should start hitting new shows weekly until the problem corrects itself.

Well, I was thinking about it, and I just saw a concert in Germany in Nov, and a few months before that I saw Ozzie and Rob Zombie, so it isn't like I haven't had the opportunity, but I don't recall any of the previous acts causing me to have my hands up over my head for an extended period of time. I guess it would depend on the act.

VicD 12-20-2008 04:16 AM

I'am a fitnessinstructor, joining a gym is a good idea, it can prevend a lot of health issues..

Number one reason I started trying to hit more festival type setup shows than "headliner" shows. As long as you like a couple acts it makes the entire experience worth it. Unfortunately past 2-3 years I have been to almost none, which is killing me. Going from working in Hollywood being at a show every night, to one to two shows a month, down to sitting on the computer all day is killing me :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

tony286 12-20-2008 08:49 AM

I thought they check id's at rock concerts no one over 60 admitted?

Still probably wouldn't hurt to get that checked out hon..... my husband has a pinched nerve and so do I and I know when we do the least little thing it will set it off. It doesn't ALWAYS hurt, sometimes for a few days at a time on the excruciating level and some days for only a little while at a time and some days not even at all, but the LEAST little thing can snap and cause it to hurt so bad you don't feel like you'll ever move again.

I have 3 herniated disks, degenerative disk disease and all of the nerves in my back are pinched........ and my husband has his Syatic(sp?) nerve pinched..... and this sounds an awfully familiar.

Better to get it checked now so you know..... you don't want that to be what it is and cause more extensive damage, trust me. I have not taken very good care of mine and it hurts now more than it doesn't. Just walking to the mailbox somedays is more than I can do.

Just have it looked at, that's all.

Zorgman 12-20-2008 09:25 AM

I have the same problem, i think I slepted in a funny position last night. I tend to fall asleep hugging the pillow ( no jokes please ) and wake up on my side, so who the fuck knowns what positions iv got into. Stuff my back up all day anyway...

Violetta 12-20-2008 09:44 AM

the gym sounds like a good idea!

CDSmith 12-20-2008 10:36 AM

Aches and pains? Welcome to my world.

Could use some of those quality 70's "medications" right about now, actually.

Yes, some ludes would make for some nice muscle relaxers. At least the pain has subsided today . . . a little.

CDSmith 12-20-2008 11:03 AM

I let the exercising slide for a few weeks. The other day I got back on the multi-gym and did 4 sets of bench and 4 sets of lat pulldowns, with lighter weight and more reps just to get the blood flowing again.

I've been in pain for going on 3 days now. :(

CDSmith 12-20-2008 11:04 AM

Although, there has been a change in the weather of late. That always puts an ache in the old joints too.

Especially in winter.

J. Falcon 12-20-2008 11:06 AM

Get well soon BD.

I can not imagine living in Canada in the winter. I had to tell goodgirl that I am not coming out to Indiana in the winter unless it is an emergency. My bones never feel like that at my house.

My fucking freezer isn't as cold as your "warm" days.

mona 12-20-2008 11:08 AM

Actually... I love the cold, and I love the change in the seasons we have here. You can't believe how fresh the air is outside on a day (like today) when it's snowing. No, the thing that gets into my bones is the weather changes themselves. doesn't really matter what weather it is. When that barometric pressure takes a wild up or downswing, my back and neck tend to get jammed up.

But then again I grew up here, playing outdoor hockey, snowball fights, building snowforts, giving girls the facewash treatment, well... no regrets here.

I had a nice jetted tub installed in my basement about 5 years back, and it's heaven on these kinds of aches, so I guess I have little to complain about. But I DO have days like you where I'm saying DAMN I'm getting old. Or at least feeling old. :D

kostas 12-21-2008 12:16 PM

A good excercise is also dance lessons. It is more expensive than a gym but at least you can dance. I dance for years and it's amazing. Note that i'm 46 y.o It is not so easy for me as for a 20 y.o but is not impossible to dance as young. It is a daily physical and mental therapy. Makes me feel much younger and the most important: I attract young girls. It is a magnet for womens ( if you are not a 100% idiot).
