$300 or less video camera?
 

This is NOT for content, this is for home stuff with the kids. I REALLY don't want to fuck with those damn DV tapes if I don't have to. Either hard drive or using some big memory cards would probably be most convenient.

Any suggestions for what to look at?

in bestbuy I just saw a good jvc (or samsung?) video camera for about $200 bucks
good resolution and digital video so as you say no dv or cassette required
