Need good hosting company...

I have been using one company for like 10 years but their support is so bad I can't deal with it any more. Rude smart ass support people that talk down to you FUCK them.

I want an affordable reliable host that actually has support. I'm not doing a ton of traffic.

Any recommendations, and the best way to transfer everything over, I am running scripts etc...

TidalWave 12-27-2008 12:00 AM

Are you looking for a dedicated? I can get you hooked up with a migration, and you'll be pretty happy here.

We are in LA too, so you can kick our ass in person if you'd like :)

asianseekerz 12-27-2008 03:55 AM

i could suggest the IS prime hosting!!!!!!

lacuna 12-27-2008 04:21 AM

I like Dreamhost. 20 GB diskspace, free unlimited domains hosted on one account, free streaming video, and 1 TB monthly bandwidth ONLY $7.95 PER MONTH! Includes one free domain registration. :thumbsup

Zuzana Designs 12-27-2008 07:48 AM

webair is great !! been with them over 4 years now..

Cash 12-27-2008 03:55 PM

See sig. Use one of those invitation codes for huge monthly bandwidth (much more than if you join them with no such invitation code)!

CaptainHowdy 12-27-2008 04:17 PM

Check SERVAGE and see if it fits your needs.

wfb 12-27-2008 05:24 PM

ll depends what your needs are.

If you just want a shared hosting plan, i would tell you to with servage.net.
5000GB transfer a month, 510gb harddisk, control panel and autoinstallers etc included for 6,35-7,50€a month (about 10$ a month) + a free domain.
I have used them for a year until my site was to big/heavy to be supported there.

We will be glad to help you out at Way3.com. Contact us and let us know what your needs are and we'll be glad to create an affordable plan that will work for you!

Phatservers.net has good support. We always see amazingly good, fast
support from them. I've been told that they one thing they aren't always
amazingly fast at is getting new sites set up.

Someone mentioned Dreamhost - there are some good things about Dreamhost,
mostly that they are cheap. I would rate them near or at the bottom for support
though. Of course, how much support do you expect for $8? I wouldn't expect
much, and with Dreamhost it seems you get even less than "not much".

Naked Hosting (see sig). Great prices, amazing service, incredible value and they'll transfer your sites for you. Plenty of happy customers here at GFY!

pornguy 12-28-2008 03:52 PM

I have personally used Cyberwurx.com for 10 years.

tonyparra 12-28-2008 05:52 PM

Ditto!!!

I log on today and what do i see my site is down once again:disgust Unfortnately i dont have the money to switch to new hosting or else i would do it right now this is bs every couple of weeks i have a problem with my site somehow they always try to make it seem like my fault. i cant take it anymore, i dont even have lot of traffic with less than 1000 pageviews on all my sites put together per day :mad::

TidalWave 12-28-2008 11:20 PM

why does it cost you money to switch? most hosts can do the migration for you. if all you can afford is your current host, then thats a different story

This page talks about how to move sites without messing up your scripts.
Most of it is general to all scripts, such as preserving proper permissions (chmod)
and ownership (chown). The page points out the one part which is somewhat
specific to Strongbox - the wildcard. The wildcard is a good thing whether you
have Strongbox or not, but isn't really required.

stoner529 12-29-2008 05:42 PM

it depends on how fast you need support for it. some companies are there around the clock(so they say) and then there are the ones that are actually around the clock. find out what your needs are first because if you havent noticed, you just got a list of about 1000 different webhosts, all saying "mine is best"

jmcb420 12-29-2008 05:59 PM

hostgator, great service and cool people. See my sig.

pornask 12-29-2008 06:04 PM

It amazes me how people still have the nerve to recommend hostgator or servage or similar. WTF?

I would still have to pay first month hosting and setup fee depending on the host...
I wasnt really sure of the cost till i started looking around and saw that wouldnt be that bad...but there are so many hosting companies to choose from its mind boggling really...

I guess from what i see phatservers.net, nakedhosting.com, and hostgator are getting the most thumbs up, i was leaning towards hostgator but i worry if something sounds too good... i mean unlimited disk space and bandwidth then i see something like this

In your sig i see an offer for 9.95 it is really confusing

Obviously this is a big issue for noobs cus i think the things people ask most are Seo, how does my site look, and whats good hosting?

Is there an tutorial for choosing webhosting? I mean to be honest i really dont know what most of the terms mean just that you should not go over bandwidth...:helpme

In can be very confusing! I recommend that you do a lot of research. In most cases, if it is too good to be true, it probably is. Look for recommendations, not just referral links. Some are good! Others are just trying to make referral money! Nothing wrong with that, as long as you are aware of it. Also, look for a host that will work with you and help with your needs and/or changes! In the meantime, if you have any questions, feel free to contact us! We wish you the best of luck regardless of who you choose to host with! Have a Happy and Prosperous New Year!!

brandonstills 12-30-2008 07:46 PM

I'm hosting with SoftLayer. Their support is really good. Although recently I had to wait for 2 rings for the first time before I heard someone on the other end of the line. Prices are good and bandwidth has the best performance of 5 previous hosting companies I have tried.

HerPimp 01-15-2009 03:44 AM

I recommend phatservers
