Excluding server software and maybe a desktop OS, anyone here operate completely off open source?

about 80% but I am not some program owner if that's what you are looking for answers from.

Not that easy to do for designers and programmers. (without stealing)
There is always something needed like photoshop or flash...etc...

Still need Fireworks and Photoshop. Other than that, everything I use is open source.

what the hell is the point now a days?

I used to read that blog pretty much daily... it was really good for awhile, now I think he is out of things to write about because now it's all material that he has already written simply rehashed. If you dig deep enough, there is some good stuff about keeping organized and time management.

I used to give a shit about open source and playing with other operating systems and shit back in the 90s before I cared about actually making money, now I have no time for all of that shit.

Yeh, I kind of agree. Fishing around for free software all of the time is really annoying... sometimes, most of the time, it's easier and faster to fork over a little cash and get a fully supported commercial product that hundreds and thousands of other businesses have already tested.

Been using Linux exclusively as a desktop for 10 years.

ubuntu out of the box works, I can't complain about that but other distros not so much

why bother, everything is for free via torrents

kind of like the recording industry, if the companies are going to make products that are SO far out of reach for the average joe to start a business that means they don't respect the smaller business man, so I am not going to respect them back
