Is there still business to be made at trade shows?
 

Do sponsors get there money back for throwing parties and giving away free stuff?

Back in the day it was a great way to brand yourself and get more traffic but are webmasters starting to be loyal to certain programs?

It seems like everyoone talks at shows but when its time to close the deal it rarely happens.

For me its just a big fun party now I dont even try to do biz at shows anymore:thumbsup

I haven't been active for awhile but I think every single show brings in SOMETHING... Whether you meet someone in an elevator or in the bathroom, those 1 on 1 encounters can bring in new loyal affiliates. I just like getting to know new people. There's a million programs but if you get personal contact with new people, it always pays off eventually.

The only business that goes on at shows now are between the hookers and drug dealers.

Ive been to two shows.I had a ball, made some friends never did any biz. Ive done more biz and made more contacts here on gfy.In fact my first deal out side of my own stuff was with Carol and porn kings here on gfy:)

I think its easier for a girls now to close the deal.. I remember when I would have sex chat talks with girl reps. maybe I need to start again

I cant lie I got alot of good webmasters off Gfy. After a show you need to follow up with people and close the deal when they are online. Kinda a pain

Of course with the internet its easy to do biz without ever meeting anyone but I think you always have the edge and feel more comfortable dealing with someone you have actually met . :)

You should talk to me at the internext, of course I'm looking for more traffic as everyone, but if you want a cool plug in for your members areas for an upsell, I'm in.

I think once apon a time but I don't think it matters as much anymore. In the 90's when I was a headhunter, I did deals that would bring checks of 30 to 50 grand and never met a soul it was all done on the phone. My best client at the time could of passed him on the street and we wouldn't of known each other.

Oh yeah, I remember that. Porterhouse steak & $50, best meal ever. Although I lost it at blackjack within 10 minutes, lol.

Yeah it's true that not everything has ever been accomplished that was talked about at the tradeshows, I stilll have things to fullfill from the last (this) year and it pisses me off.

But, it's going to get done, and that's what counts.

Yes I agree tony, it doesnt stop any deals taking place if you have never met the person,but l still think if you have met it can at times give you the edge and any advantage in a competitive market is always a bonus :thumbsup

john and mark leave the show they both where full of shit and nothing comes about it both can report back to their company how many people where in love with their concept and both can continue doing nothing for nobody until the industry spits them out, but not before they eat up some payroll at some other companies.

Now is it possible to do real serious business at shows, well yeah but you have a better chance winning lotto than getting one penny out of a AVN show or magazine.

If you're going to the shows with a mindset to accomplish business, you will. I've been to dozens of shows and the last show I attended, LA Webmaster Access in November, was one of my best 'business' shows ever.

RRRed made a great point - every interaction and new introduction pays off in the future too. So even if you don't see immediate results, it will come with time.

With that said I agree with myjah 110%

I never really did much business right at the shows or right after the shows... over time is when it paid off for me. Getting to meet someone and then six months later you need something and you think back and it's "hey, so-and-so would be perfect for this"... you get in touch with them and bam, there you have it.

It's a lot easier to get by knowing people than not knowing people. Not every particular expense has an immediate return on investment, they all play their little part in the big picture.

If you give me a card I'll keep and check out the site later. That's about as far as I go. Always fin though. I mean in the real world when do you get to meet other people that do what you do? I always try to go when I can.

but there is some business to be done for sure...just 1/10 sure things will come true

so make sure you have 11 sure things from the show..lol
