$325/night Not too bad.

BD, you going to Maui? If so... for how long and what days? Do you have any plans for a Luau? My cousin-in-law runs The Old Lahina Luau.
http://www.oldlahainaluau.com/flash.html

Here are a few pics of the premier dancer in the Luau. Her name be Paula.
I hired her to model for me to pose for a sculpture I was working on.

Do you have plans to visit Haleakala? My suggestion to you, (and I'm sure you've been before,) go rent a hog (no helmet laws there) and ride to Hana.
I drive it everytime we go.
http://www.hawaiianstylemedia.com/im...-Hana-Icon.jpg

you'll eventually end up here.

Oh also, Paia is an old Hippy town, I'm sure you'll fit right in. Willie Nelson frequents a restaurant there. Up the road away is Makawao. There's a little mexican joint that Santana frequents. We saw him there once.

happy 2009 to you guys.

I have never been to Hawaii before. We are going for Webmaster Access. We will be in Maui from 2/23-26 then Kauai from 2/27 - 3/2.

The only thing I know we are doing is sponsoring a Sunset Cruise on the 26th. I know I heard some talk about a luau when I was in Phoenix a few weeks ago. In fact, I seem to recall hearing Eric mention your name. We can talk more about Hawaii at the game.

Dude, it's your first time??? If you pass up a trip to Hana on a Hog with the warm Maui air breezing thru your hair ending at Oheo Gulch (known formerly as the 7 sacred pools) to hang out with neeeeeerrrrdddssss, well... then... I dunno...

The man is right.

http://www.ampcontent.com/pics/Maui2...i-2004_029.jpg

But the journey doesn't have to end at 7 sacred pools. Plenty to see on the back side as well.

The primary reason I never had an interest in islands is limited riding space. I can't see any reason to not see all sides of the island as I doubt I will return.

Not sure that I would take a bike down the back side of the road to Hana. :2 cents:

AaronM 01-01-2009 11:22 AM

And stop at Mama's Fish House on the way out.

Dude, for breakfast there's a place that can't be beat. Seriously, hands down, it's the best fuckin breakfast place I ever ate at. It's called Tasty Crust. http://tastycrust.com/ It's a little hole in the whole, dive. But man.. the breakfast... sooooooooo fuckin good. I recommend the pancakes.

Also, AM's right the Road to Hana is good one way. Once you pass Hana you can go a little further to Charles Lindburgh's grave, but not much further past that the road turns to dirt in some places. If you rent a 4-wheel drive then it's totally worth it.

We have a Jeep Grand Cherokee there and I drag the whole damn family on a trip all the way around from Pia to Hana, to Kihei then to Lahina and up around Kapalua and back down to Kahului and then home. It's soooo worth it. To basically get in a car, go straight, and end up back where you started. It takes a full day though. Oddly enough I can drive it with no problem, but I can barely go to Chatsworth from North Hollywood and not bitch about how far it is.

Also... highly recommended, take a heli tour. Also totally touristy, ask for the tour that'll take you to a place called the 'wall of tears' it's up towards the north side, high up in the mountains. You'll see like several thin white strings coming from above the cloud line. There are a lot of thin waterfalls. They look like strings hanging down against the mountain.

This video doesn't do it any fucking justice at all.

West Maui Mts during the day, taken from Pukalani where I stay.

same area, but at night.

Behind this church is where you can see Charles Linburgh's grave.

The backside of Maui, (past Hana, on the way back to civilization.) I swear that road looks and feels like it was built with one shovel full of asphalt at a time.
http://creativealloy.com/DnD/photofo...s/DSC03432.jpg

fuck.. I could post these all damn day...

iamkathi 01-01-2009 07:20 PM

There is a great beach on the 'back side' of Hana in the forbidden area they'll tell you not to go to when you rent a car.

It has huge boulders at the waters edge. We call it the bowling ball beach. My husband and I always hit that spot. The waves just crash up on the rocks and you can hear it gurgle as the waves goes back out. It is so peaceful and romantic. I know you'll enjoy yourself.

These pictures are beautiful...but it is even more so in person.

The road was still closed last year at this time due to an earthquake. The drive all the way around that side of the island was always our favorite - was highly disappointed it was blocked last time.

You don't happen to have a picture (of yours!) of that church out there, do you?

Tat2Jr 02-04-2009 05:59 AM

Have fun baddog. I'm sure you will go back no matter what you say now! We've gone 6 times/every island now... and still plan many more vacations there.

We totally planned on going to the show, but last night we decided that the $6k+ (and time) the business planned on spending would be better spent shooting a few more models to round out one of the new micro niche sites we're doing.

Would have been so nice to have the biz pay for a Hawaii trip, but I'll just have to pay for it myself in the fall. :disgust

If attending and want to join the Sunset Dinner Cruise please notify us today as I will be making final arrangements tomorrow afternoon.
