What's better for SEO

I want to start a new 'project' and I want fast SE results preferably.

I registered a the perfect .name domain which was dropped last year and which is redirected momentarily and only having good serp's in yahoo.

Then I have some undeveloped .com domains left which I can use as well, registered 6 months ago.

My last option is to register a new .com domain and put my website to that one.

What kind of domain is the best to use?

Is the project for one site?

How competitive is the keyword phrase?

.com is preferable to .name

Project is for one site indeed.

The name is one of the main keywords and competitive.

Sometimes ages domains can give you an advantage, other times not so much. I check the background on a domain which was registered by someone before me and also whether or not it has been parked. I tend to not do so great SE wise with domains that have a history or have been parked. In this instance I will grab a new domain and have better results as far as ranking than a domain which was aged but parked.

Thanks for the answers

the domain name is irrelevant.

One can get a one day old domain of any extension to the number one position of any keyword no matter what the domain or the extension.

Simply having keyword.com isn't going to make you number one for keyword.
fjhkjhjhkklk.com can make number one for keyword. :2 cents:

Your anchor text for inbound links can help your rank/position alot..

Here's an example..

the key phrase click here.

Adobe is the number one result even though click here is not in the domain nor is the site seo'd for click here
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...LL_en&aq=f&oq=

Your next focus is on page seo.

Forget about the domain, or the name as it's irrelvant

I'll register a new .com domain first.

Thanks for the explanation Spacedog

I always prefer .com

If you register a new one it can go into the google sand box.

The domain with the keyword in it does grab a few extra points from Yahoo, but thats about it.

Dont use a .name If you want to try surf the keywords you want and look for top listings of .name sites.

Hit me on ICQ to talk about some SEO work on the site.

How fast can SE results can be? We are talking hours/days/months/years?

Viper.X08 01-06-2009 11:37 AM

good links and content at the same time will be helpful for your site page/s to get index by SEs.

Simply put.. All of the above.. Depending on what you are doing.. Going for the keyword "lesbians" your most likely going to have to wait a few months. going for "lesbains with blonde hair and blue eyes" You can most likely get that in a few days to weeks and then make it move in a period of a few hours.

But you have to ask is the fast list worth it.. How much traffic will you get. From what I can tell that last string I put there had less than 10 searches per day last month. where " Lesbians " had 60,354 per day last month.

MissDiva: weeks.

Everybody thanks for the answers and Pornguy specifically for his help online.

These are more better for SEO, because they have some age.

How long is a piece of string???

Lots of factors involved, depending on how good your optimization is,

Also doing a status report, every so often, whether it be every day, week, month, etc

Go with undeveloped .com domains older then 1 year( if you have them) coz Google doesn't like a lot the new domains. With the new domains you will have to wait at least 6-8 months to see some steady SE traffic

ffnstuff 01-10-2009 02:49 PM

personally, I would go with the .com domains. 6 months isn't necessarily "aged" however it is better than a .name at this point in time. You can typically expect a few days to a few weeks to rank for a specific term depending on difficulty and how you go about obtaining links, and the amount of links and quality you get from start to the following months with the site.

The statement that domain name is not a weight on the SEO of the site is not accurate, I believe this was said by Spacedog. It does hold some weight but it is true that you can gave grannyporn dot com ranking for teen sex ... it is just more difficult, and google takes all this into considering whenever it raises your sites through the ranks.

It's really irrelevant whether your keywords are in your domain name or not.
Try googling on following keywords/phrases:
shyla stylez
sex
new cars

Search on "new cars" gives 4th position to newcars.com ...... why? Because first 3 sites have done better SEO job. That means on site and off site optimization, link popularity, page reputation.

Shyla Stylez official site is on position 31. That's because she takes care more about her boobs than about her site. But freeones.com has not such boobs to care about and are focused on SEO, that's the reason why shyla's site is on position 31 and freones on 1st.

Amazon.com is not on the first position for "amazon" search because they have word amazon in their domain name. It's because they have millions of inbound (good positioned) links to the site with a word "amazon" in anchor text.

Take care about your content, your text blocks on the site and obtain good quality links.
