Just when you thought TV content could get lower.

I flick on some beyond lame dance show on NBC. Not sure wtf is supposed to be going on but I really think they must think the viewing audience is well retarded. I barely had time to get over the issue of having assorted world judges all dressed up in some quasi version of whatever country cliche costume you could come up with. Then as I was sitting there awe struck in the sheer sideshow aspect of it, like it was trying to sell this world view to me on a retarded platter the dancing begun. Dear gawd I can understand TV shows can be lame and all but holy shit. I really want to know what kind of blackmail material they have on the NBC executives to have allowed this crap to be aired.

I like TV and find it a good background supplement. I also do enjoy a variety of shows and educational stuff as well. This however is almost reason to rip my TV off the wall.

OK if someone would jump out any moment now and say the entire show is a joke and everyone has been had, now would be the time.

americans eat the shit up for some reason, big channels cancel shows that are getting good and keep stupid ass shows like that

BRING BACK JOURNEYMAN GODDAMNIT :(

I was watching Charlie Rose and they had the head of programming from NBC. He was a young guy and used all the buzz words about new media and this and that.

When asked about choosing shows to air, he made this really eloquent speech about trying to always pick the smartest shows, the ones that push the barriers. He mentioned his mentor, the late Brandon Tartakoff and how he always taught him to have respect for the intelligence of the audience and always pick smart shows.

Then Charlie said, "lets take a look at some clips for shows that you helped bring to NBC"

The clips were

1) The biggest loser - a show where fat people lose weight.
2) Knight Rider - the new version
3) American Gladiators - the new version
and a few others.

When they cut back you could tell he was almost embarrassed. I couldn't stop laughing at what a clown he looked like.

They should fire those executives and just hire some TV junkies for $50k a year.

See avatar... We are per capita, the dumbest mother fuckers on the planet. Idiocracy is spreading at a staggering pace.

I wish they would. That was a great show. Hmmmm, seems they cancel all the thought provoking shows and pile on the mindless BS. See avatar again... :upsidedow

yeah Journey man was getting good, it had so much potential..

TV has degraded, Where the fuck are the new X-Files or Sliders type shows?

sure Battlestar and the likes are good but they dont follow the same niche feel as sliders or x-files and the likes..

Journey man was one of the first shows to have that same kind of niche but then it got canceled!

I'm sorry to say it, but it's pretty much the same everywhere.

The problem is that when competing for ratings, appealing to the lowest common denominator is often essential. Shows aimed at idiots will often still appeal at least somewhat to those who aren't idiots, but as soon as you aim higher, you lose a part of your potential audience.

The problem is exacerbated by the fact that these days, intellectualism is frowned upon rather than encouraged. So people end up spending time on things that merely entertain them, rather than things that challenge their minds.

Don't blame Americans or the viewers. TV viewership is at an all time low if I remember correctly.

It's the shortsighted TV execs who want a super cheap show and won't give good shows a chance to grow.
