To Glam or not to Glam... (Photoshop thread)

What do you think surfers prefer better? Up until now I fixed just zits, stretch marks etc, but do you think they would prefer the whole thing fixed up? Examples....

No offence, but just overlaying a blurred layer is not my idea of fixing up.

I would go for the "natural" version so no glam.

-edit- and by "natural" I mean the basic photoshopping of zits etc

NaughtyRob 01-07-2009 02:40 PM

Thats not what I did.

But that's what it looks like :winkwink:

-edit- or perhaps I should say "soft filter"

Agreed 100%

I think leveling it off bit would make it look better too. it really depends on the audience. For our main site audience they prefer a more naturally shot look so we keep retouching to a minimum. But I can imagine a more mainstream porn surfer wanting more photoshoped pics...

Europeeing Lee 01-07-2009 02:43 PM

jesus, can you take pics that are more blurry please?

auto focus...use it

NaughtyRob 01-07-2009 02:45 PM

And who the fuck are you mister 32 posts, fuck off. I didnt even shoot these pics.

XX_RydeR 01-07-2009 02:45 PM

It depends on the site audience, obviosly people joining an amatuer site dont want to see fixed shots.

Your before and afters are much of a muchness.

NaughtyRob 01-07-2009 02:49 PM

Ok maybe those pics were not the greatest example, look at these.....

First one, I fixed her zits and thats it, second one I ran an action that I have saved.

Your girls are hot, and you're a nice guy.... so when I say this DO NOT take offsense:
Those photos look glow-blurred. Those aren't "retouched".

Both would look good if done glam CORRECTLY.

Si 01-07-2009 02:56 PM

Glam it but not to much. you have to be careful

Scott McD 01-07-2009 02:57 PM

Pic 1 everytime... :2 cents::2 cents:

Makes sense....:thumbsup

gimme-website 01-07-2009 03:00 PM

The second example pics you posted look better to me, my personal preference would probably be somewhere in the middle. I always tend to "over-smooth" photos I use in designs, so what I do is retouch the photo til it looks good in my opinion, and then knock 50% off :winkwink:

NaughtyRob 01-07-2009 03:01 PM

Good tip gimme-website. That reminds me I need to hit you up for a design!

Jarmusch 01-07-2009 03:02 PM

Those 'fixed' pics don't look natural, far from it.

AnniKN 01-07-2009 03:54 PM

When it comes to amateur I'd say just remove the zits if anything... for pro-am sites a bit of glam is good, but for full glamourization to work, you need studio photoshoots a la Dean Capture.

Also, every set is different, that's why actions rarely work. And when using the blur filter you must be careful to blur only the skin... mask away the features and the background, cuz otherwise it gives it away ;) It is also a myth that more saturation always works, sometimes less saturation works better... if you want some help hit me up :) I am busy nowadays, but can always talk for a bit...

Here are my versions:

Just quickies but you get the idea =)

tony286 01-07-2009 04:09 PM

i think it all depends what are you shooting it for

After Shock Media 01-07-2009 04:09 PM

getnaughty I am slightly confused. The top girl in this thread, isn't she the one simon was offering up recently? Do you both have her, what?

woj 01-07-2009 04:10 PM

probably depends on the target audience, but I prefer the unedited look...

Great work

Elli 01-07-2009 05:33 PM

That's a slippery slope. Once I start retouching, I don't know when to stop. I'd say adding some 'pop' with saturation and curves is fine and taking out pimples, but when you get to the soft glow stage, you've gone too far. *Unless you're making a graphic for something*

brandonstills 01-07-2009 07:22 PM

Airbrush to remove imperfections but don't make it look fake. Keep the texture of the skin.

Verbal 01-07-2009 07:28 PM

If you can tell its been photoshopped, then you're not doing it right

What he said.

However, it's one thing to take a bad photo and try to 'glam it up' and it's another thing to actually shoot a glam photo from the get go. Since the photos are bad to start with, just make them all an amateur set.

It's a fuckin shame to see such a hot girl with the best tits on the planet, being shot in such a bad way.

I dunno about you, but Elli talking about curves gets me kinda hot....

Ace_luffy 01-07-2009 08:58 PM

just i observed most of the sites

if the contents is amateur - no photoshops
if the contents is teens/pornstars - glam photoshops
