Holy damn hell the 1 contest only rule needs to be applied ASAP.
Will you fucktard contest whores please fucking stop mass bumping every single contest thread at once to the top of the main page.
No you are not webmasters. No you are not doing contests in your spare time. You are the GFY equivalent of the crackhead street walkers. Bad enough that I do not even promote the companies that hold these liquid shit pools of contest, which should not even be called contests. |

As for the contests the board just needs to alter the rules from 3 to 1 contest thread at one time. For damn sure kick in the 10 day rule in regards to them. I also think that the current "bump" style contests are in essence the same damn thing as the most posts type that have been banned. I just realized that the rules state 3 can run - within a 10 day period in which the contest must end. So excuse the thread title mistake. |
on a serious note, I wonder how many of these companies ever calculated the ROI from the contests... my guess is that 90% of companies are doing contests because they see that other companies are doing it so they think that it's the way to go
|
I don't think I have ever clicked on a contest thread. Excuse me while I go see what all the fuss is about :winkwink:
|
I wonder when Eric is going to announce the new rules regarding them.
|
I approve of this thread :) ... contest whores can lick my sticky balls.......I also approve the "proving beyond shadow of a doubt" people who participate in those threads are in actual biz with the companies they bump.... that'll end most of this crap...

I have cruised a few recently and well its the same 5-12k posters in there saying bump it up, speed it up, to the top, and other stupid one line crap for the win. |

Wait wait wait...So instead of posting threads that no one even views, let alone replies to, I can just throw up a "contest" and keep bumping it to the top, DEMANDING your attention? Fuck you guys, I'm going to go dream up a contest!:321GFYxxx

If only real webmasters were allowed to participate in contest threads, the threads would get buried on the 2nd page pretty quick. |

As for them hitting page 2 quickly - oh well that would just mean come up with something productive. |
agree with you ASM, contests ruin the overall user experience on gfy, the people that post in them suck, and if anything seeing a contest makes me less want to do business with a company, at the very best I would be indifferent :2 cents:

It's sort of like that rule that says sigs should have no more that 3 lines of default size and color text, yet you see tons of sigs with big fonts and in every color of the rainbow. |
congrats to all the winners :thumbsup

It really is not like the sig violations though. Foremost there is a board option to turn off sigs if people want. Often blatant abusers do get their sigs removed. |

See the contest thread one time and then never see it again :glugglug |
its pretty lame, there should be a contests only forum

Not trying to strip advertisers out of a benefit, just would like to see it controlled and for the abuse to stop. |

It was prickish. |
Indeed it was prickish, but someone snagged me the other day with it, and I figured what better place to drop a random shit link than here.
Imean really people, clicking random links in random threads? I thought we all knew better by now. /me shrugs... |

Note for everyone here, I rarely if ever post anything of value on GFY anymore... |
now back to thread issue.
|
I've always just ignored the threads myself, it never seemed like much of an issue. I admit years ago there were days where I thought I might pocket some extra cash for nothing, but never did I ever win a contest. I tossed the idea out the window and have rarely opened a contest thread since.
I think the simplest way to curb the contest threads is to change the rule so that those entering to win do indeed need to be an active affiliate, or to limit the max number of posts/prices per thread. |
Cull all the fake nicks and anons and bots and you'd go a long way in fixing the contest issue. I see nothing wrong with a program rewarding it's affiliates with a contest, but it's the amount of cheating that goes on that really causes the most annoyance for everyone, and by everyone I mean everyone on the board.
Problem is rules aren't always enforced, especially by the programs themselves who run the contests. If the rule says "only 20 posts per day PER WEBMASTER" and idiot bots are putting up 100+ posts per day and the rule isn't enforced, well... it's pretty obvious there's a problem in la la land. |
