Spectacular Ice Formations - Niagara Falls (new PICS)
 

So I made my annual winter pilgrimmage down to Niagara Falls earlier this afternoon and spent several hours capturing it with the Nikon d80.

The cold temps and heavy ice buildup made for some interesting images.

Been meaning to do OPC in the winter, but it's just way too icy and dangerous - ditto the Rankine outfall..

I don't know what's left of OPC these days. Last I heard its quite gutted inside. But I'd love to check out the Rankine outfall in winter sometime. No one's done it to my knowledge (so far). It'd likely have some amazing ice formations.

Friend of mine has documented the hell out of it.

He's attempted rankine in the winter - unless you've got the crampons + fullon ice climbing gear, he reckons it's not plausible. A slip into that water would kill.

It was -8c (with a bit of windchill)...not wickedly cold by comparison to last week at -18c (with a windchill of -30c).

It just looks a lot colder in the pics because of the ice buildup from the Falls mist.

Either that...or I'm way too damn aclimated to the winter temps. :1orglaugh
