1280x800 (wide-screen) takes the #1 spot from 1024x768
for ages 1024x768 have been the top screen resolution, for the users across my own sites and my customers sites. But today - for the first time on all of the sites together - 1280x800 (wide-screen) have taken the place as the preferred screen resolution.
If I look at the stats from a month ago, it looks like 3+ % of my surfers got a new laptop or a wide-screen display for x-mas. 1. 1280x800 - 25.62% 2. 1024x768 - 25.52% 3. 1280x1024 - 19.22% 4. 1440x900 - 9.66% 5. 1680x1050 - 8.90% 6. 1280x768 - 2.17% 7. 1152x864 - 2.06% 8. 1280x960 - 1.41% 9. 1920x1200 - 1.19% 10. 800x600 - 1.09% |
I'd still design for 2. 1024x768 - 25.52%
unless you want to use CSS and make it scalable %wise. |
1024x768 is sooo ancient, I haven't used that resolution in probably 10 years...

Going by your data it looks like 45% of your visiters have widescreen monitors. Probably more since I suspect many have widescreen monitors but use 4:3 settings because they don't know better. By this time next year I wouldn't be surprised to see that number reach nearly 60%. 2/3 of your visitors use a screen width of at least 1280. By next year I'd start designing for 1280 wide. |
From one of my sites:
1. 1280x800 32.67% 2. 1024x768 29.98% 3. 1440x900 9.13% 4. 1280x1024 8.58% 5. 1680x1050 3.90% 6. 800x600 3.51% 7. 1280x768 2.39% 8. 1152x864 2.13% 9. 1280x720 0.94% 10. 1920x1200 0.88% |
thats awesome news
|
i use different than that
|
I finally started designing for 1024 screens as my minimum width. Fuck 800 pixels. :thumbsup
|
was this from here? http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_display.asp
|
no shit, 1024 is so 2005 :1orglaugh
i use the extra space for my instant messenger so dont even think about designing anything bigger than 1024 or im gonna rip my foot off in your ass :1orglaugh |
Im loving my widescreen, easy on the eyes.
Now lets get my widescreentube.com domain running ;) |
I feel sorry for anyone still on 800x600, and sadly I know some people that just won't stray from that resolution for some reason. I'm on 1360x768 on a 32" ViewSonic TV...I'd love to get better resolution but can't seem to find a fucking driver that works for it.

800 X 600 FTW !
Actually, thats cool, cause my main PC that I work on daily, and do a 'bit' of design on... Is actually 1280x800 so I must be 'inadvertently' heading in the right direction ! Thanks ! :thumbsup |

I still do 800x600
:( |
fuck 800x600!
|
I have some clients who want it to stay under 800x600 and some want wiiiide like 1000 pixels.
|
good numbers for reference
|
Well, I particullary use 1440x900, but when I do some html document, I work with 1024x768...
|
Funny (or sad) thing is: A lot of linklists still won't accept sites bigger than 800x600.
