what's the best soap for bubbles?
I want those really long lasting and very thick and sudsy pure white bubbles. For shower scenes and bubble baths. I guess I can color correct, but still.. you know how like when dish soap gets real thick it starts to get a little transparent, and looks grayish... I don't want that.
It seems to me that dish soap produces tiny bubbles but I want like really thick.. almost like bubbles that you blow. So like on the big side, 1" - 2" in diameter and then some really creamy thick white bubbles that LAST. That's also important they have to last for the shoot and be light so they don't just run down her body for the shoot. Ok, (jesus, I didn't think I'd be so specific), so they need to be bright in color, vary in size, be thick and creamy and cling to skin well... any suggestions? |

Not sure where you are located but most malls have one of those stores that sell nothing but bath soaps and lotions and stuff like that. I'm sure they could help you out.
Might be a bit weird when a guy shows up and says he wants his bathtub filled with brightly colored creamy bubbles..lol. |
My answer would hurt your brain.

This = no good.
Bubbles to small. Water just looks... sad, and just a little soapy. http://texas.lateteen.net/wp-content...7/z001_jpg.jpg This = VERY GOOD Thick soap, covers well. lots of bubbles. http://www.redbloodedthing.com/blog/...bath-video.jpg |
Fuck it.
OK issue number 1. Most people do not even buy "soap" anymore. They buy detergent. That crap people call soap sitting next to their sink or in their shower, odds are is not even soap. Sure it looks like a bar of soap but it isn't. Hell the label does not even say soap. Issue number 2. This also works with liquid soaps. Again majority are not an actual soap. Sure you want to go down this route? |
yeah yeah yeah, we all made soap. Yes all know what sopanification is. Yes we all know they are "beauty bars." Yes we all saw fight club.
Do you know of a good SOAP SUBSTITUTE that does what I'm looking for? side note... * I used to work at a meat repackaging plant and bought 40lbs of fat from the guy after I left. I made so much fucking soap that we still have some of it lying around. It doesn't lather for shit, but it makes your skin feel softer than 18 year old tittles. |
hehe.....funny you ask, I just in fact did a shoot last night where I was taking a bubble bath. I used an entire bottle of bubble bath, and they seemed to disappear rather quickly and were all thin, so then I added a little bottle of shower gel...and another one lol...still not the effect I wanted, the same one you're going for. So I got a little creative and pulled out a bottle of dish soap, plain old Ajax!! I dumped quite a bit in and ran the shower head to build up bubbles and the end results were great....in fact, I'll give you an example of how well they worked ;)

Not going with any fight club references.
Helps though that you understand process and difference between detergent and soap. Each base oil/fat has its own scoring. (hardness, cleansing, conditioning, bubbly lather, creamy lather, iodine, INS) All lards, tallows, etc. Do not produce bubbles, just has conditioning and cleansing properties. Certain oils and fats will be ruled out automatically due to the color it produces in the end result. Hemp for example produces a very off white soap and bubbles. You need a soap made with high amounts of any of the following: myristic acid, palm kernal, fractionated coconut, castor, or normal coconut. |
I kid you not, go get yourself some Axe bodywash (Touch)
dump a bit in the tub as you start the water, (you'll have to stir it up a bit to get it started) and FYI (the water will be a bit RED at first as the bodywash is red) the coloring WILL GO AWAY as more water fills the tub. the result is nice thick fluffy bubbles that last about 20-30 mins, covers the skin very well. FOR BEST RESULTS grab yourself a home spa kit (Retails for about $100.00) you can get it at Target for example stick that baby in the tub prior to water, and once you get the desired amount of water, kick it on for JUST A FEW MINS the results = pic below (my kid tried this out lol cause she did not believe me) http://www.jjwebworks.com/bath.jpg Also the camera used for that pic was a POS camera, I'm sure a "real" camera would produce the desired shots your looking for. On a side note, damn near any basic conditioner + home spa mat will produce the above results pretty close hope that helps -Loki- |

There are soaps that produce big bubbles at most department stores, they'll say shit about it on the bottles |
