At least Obama recognized us NON BELIEVERS
best line he said was to include atheists in his speech.

Indeed, I picked up on it. He knows how to please the masses.

I thought I was the only one impressed by that. I was just thinking "what about us" when he mentioned non-believers at the end of his list of silly religions.

Did he mention anything about Agnostics?

One of things good on Obama he gives credit to those who doesnt think like him.For example he said how Mccain is good(during camping),then first there was priest who was anti gay and later priest who was pro gay.

I guess it was not just a random idea for the sake of talking. It was indeed a very important sentence of the speech

yeah that was cool.
i've never heard anything like that before. |
*kisses***

well i personally think it was good, he did a "FIRST" even in his speech.
No other President in Americas history has done what he did. He can be christian, that is fine with me, but do not label atheists as anything but a true and devout way of thinking. I voted for him and I am as atheist/antitheist as you can be. I am glad he said it. I applaud him. |

I took that to mean Mormans and Buddhists are non-believers. :upsidedow |
As a Pantheistic Quasi-Discordianist I am angered that I was left out.

Very good, I have never understood why still so many Americans are religious.
I can't believe how a developed country like American has not more common sense about religion fairytales. |
I was happy to hear that included in Obama's speech. :thumbsup
My wife (whom is Buddhist), did ask why he left out Buddhists... :1orglaugh ADG |
Actually, I applaud his entire speech - but yeah, especially him acknowledging the atheists among us. He did a tremendous job to give shout-outs to a very wide range of the public.
He also mentioned about the people who do their work in "obscurity" to keep the country functioning. Too often it seems as if only the 'celebrities' or people in high profile/political positions are given all the credit. It was a great speech - I'm sure will go down in history as among the greatest inaugural speeches ever made. Although I still support Harper here in Canada...damn, I wish we had a charismatic leader like Obama north of the border. |

I gotta hand it to him.. that was the one line of the speech that nearly brought tears to my eyes... lol... nah but seriously .. it was gr8!

I don't know, I am a little conflicted on this one. I think I would have rather heard him use the term atheists or those who believe in something else.
To me, saying "non-believers" smacks of condescension, especially with its placement in the sentence. As if to say, "Oh... and you guys too. The ones that are ignorant of the truth." I guess it is the thought that counts. And if anyone cares, no I am not atheist but I do detest organized religion. |
Obama's father is an atheist, so it is no surprise he would say non-believers.
