Interesting news maybe for 2257?

I just heard Obama has already holted all pending regulations put in place under the Bush admin. I wonder if that would effect the 2257 regulation that went into effect today?

Si 01-20-2009 05:13 PM

I fucking hope so!

Source please, considering that the man was JUST sworn in 7 hours ago, and then went to the parade, that just ended 10 mins ago, and is now heading to 10 balls.

His actual "Work" don't start till 2morrow.

This is a pretty common thing with a new incoming president. don't be surprised if he makes some executive orders altering or overturning some of Bush's regulations.

Is 2257 one of them? Who knows.

I don't recall any 2257 inspections under Clinton.

Please tell us when they occurred?

I've heard it from several news sources, the memo did go out.

But I don't think it covers all laws, just things specifically put forward by the previous administration.

I haven't seen any details though but I think the laws are still in effect, but say the previous attorney general ordered that 100 new 2257 inspectors be hired, that would be halted. Just an example.

At least that's my understanding so far.

Yea it should be interresting to see what becomes of it. They did use the word "pending" in the news story (NBC News btw) so I dunno if it would cover the part of 2257 that went active today or not.

WHouse stops pending Bush regulations for review
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama's new administration ordered all federal agencies and departments on Tuesday to stop any pending regulations until they can be reviewed by incoming staff, halting last-minute Bush orders in their tracks.

"This afternoon, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel signed a memorandum sent to all agencies and departments to stop all pending regulations until a legal and policy review can be conducted by the Obama administration," the White House said in a statement issued just hours after Obama took office.

The review is a tool commonly used by a new administration to delay so-called "midnight regulations" put in place by a former president between the election and Inauguration Day.

Midnight regulations have been heavily used by recent former presidents, including the Democrat Bill Clinton, Republican George H. W. Bush, and most recently, the Republican George W. Bush.

Controversial late rules by the outgoing Bush administration include allowing the carrying of concealed weapons in some national parks and prohibiting medical facilities from receiving federal money for discriminating against doctors and nurses who refuse to assist with abortions or dispense contraceptives based on religious grounds.

Federal law requires a 60-day waiting period before any major regulatory changes become law, so some presidents try to publish new major regulations to ensure they go into effect before the new president's inauguration on January 20.

2257 doesnt appear to be a "midnight regulation." 2257 has been around long before the time between the election and Obama taking office.
