Where to buy old books?

I want to get my girlfriend an old copy of something by Edgar Allen Poe or Oscar Wilde for Valentine's Day... does anyone have any ideas on what the best place to get that would be, and how much it would cost?

Budget is around $500, give or take a few hundred.

Most likely e-bay, Half.com or something like that.

How far have you gotten with your idea for the mainstream network

Not enough people quite yet. Which reminds me, I should bump the old thread.

its called a bookstore. You walk in and you can buy books there.

I second half.com. I recently bought entire sets of hardbacks for my favorite authors and it was a pretty good deal. You can probably get a coupon or something if you poke around online.

You could also try buy.com or albiris, both of them offer books on half.com as well.

Old. As in, old copies. Pre-1930, at the very least.

There is a big bookstore where I live called Powells. They have a very cool rare book room. Here is their website.

I did a search in used and rare for poe and these were the results

Not sure if there is anything of interest there for you. If not you can call them. They are very good about tracking things down for customers.

Oooh, I think I just found what I was looking for. It's "slightly" over budget, but it appears to be worth it :)

Thanks for the suggestions, all.

I'd try Ebay. I bought my Dad a bunch of boy scout books from back when he was a boy scout off Ebay.

Here's something:

Always been happy with what I've bought from abebooks.com, picked up an signed first edition of Papillion from them recently.
