Need hosting control panel
I am seeking recommendations on the best open source hosting control panel solution. I'd like to avoid having to pay the license fee for Cpanel/WHM, when I know there are free open source alternatives. However, we have encountered difficulties getting DTC to work under Ubuntu Server.
Ideally this post won't spawn a thousand "Cpanel rocks!" responses, which is completely unhelpful and unnecessary. I am seeking responses from individuals who are and/or have used open source control panels that they would recommend, particularly if they are aware that it will work well/easily under Ubuntu. Thanks for any input. |
Okay, so you tried free stuff and it doesn't work, but you don't want to be told about inexpensive paid options?

Ubuntu sounds so African :)

Sounds presidential.

I use Webmin with Vurtualmin on one of my servers and I am happy with it. It's not as slick as many of the other CP's but it is pretty powerful and does what it is supposed to.

What does Ubuntu mean? Ubuntu is an African word meaning 'Humanity to others', or 'I am what I am because of who we all are'. The Ubuntu distribution brings the spirit of Ubuntu to the software world. :) |
I suggest either getting a real host that has true 24/7 Fast support so you don't need a useless control panel at all, or use Direct Admin which is superior to cpanel and is not a resource hog. Most hosts will give it to you for a very small fee or even free on a dedicated server. If the fee for this is to much for you....well you are destined for failure anyway.:2 cents::2 cents:

You can get DirectAdmin for low monthly or even one-time fee if you want to buy the license.
