drugs, booze and a bad face lift.

William Barclay Masterson 01-27-2009 08:02 PM

He was a "boxer" as well. A really bad "boxer" and I'm sure that didn't help his face any.

i don't think his motorcycle accident helped his face ....

Jericho, what a punk. Mickey tells the guy he spoke out of line and respects what he does. Then he tells him that "you might respect me but I don't respect you or what you do" .... quack . Like wrestling is "really" fighting.

Threatening an old man what a tuff guy with his twink hair-do

A little more detail...

Quote:

At the age of 12, Rourke won his first boxing match as a 118-pound bantamweight. Some of his early matches were fought under the name Andre Rourke.

He continued his boxing training at the famed 5th Street Gym in Miami Beach, Florida, where Muhammad Ali began his career.

In 1969, Rourke, then weighing 140 lbs., sparred with former World Welterweight Champion Luis Rodríguez. Rodriguez was the number one rated middleweight boxer in the world, and was training for his match with world champion Nino Benvenuti. Rourke claims to have received a concussion in this sparring match.

At the 1971 Florida Golden Gloves, he received another concussion in a boxing match. After being told by doctors to take a year off and rest, Rourke temporarily retired from the ring. From 1968 to 1973, he compiled an amateur record of 20-7 (17 knockouts).
After getting into acting, Mickey returned to boxing:

Quote:

In 1991, Rourke decided that he "?had to go back to boxing", because he felt that he "? was self-destructing ? (and) had no respect for myself being an actor."

Rourke was undefeated in 8 fights, with six wins (4 by knock-out) and two draws. He fought as far afield as Spain, Japan and Germany.

He never achieved national prominence and he suffered a number of injuries, including a broken nose, toe, ribs, a split tongue, and a compressed cheekbone.

His trainer during his boxing career was Hells Angels member Chuck Zito and his entrance song was Guns N' Roses' Sweet Child o' Mine.

Boxing promoters stated that Rourke was too old to do well against top-level fighters. Indeed, Rourke himself admits that entering the ring was a sort of personal test: "(I) just wanted to give it a shot, test myself that way physically, while I still had time (interview in The Gate with Christopher Heard)."

In 1995, Rourke retired from boxing and returned to acting.

Uh, that was scripted since Mickey Rourke is going to be at Wrestlemania this year. They are setting something up with Rourke and Chris Jericho.

As for his boxing career, I was at his debut fight at the Ft. Lauderdale War Memorial Auditorium in I believe 1991. Rourke had some skill and could punch, but his defense was terrible and he got hit a ton. He got busted up really bad in that fight, although he won a decision, and I've seen tape of a few of his other fights and getting busted up was a common theme. He was a tough son of a bitch, though...

Rourke is a great actor, but really it was this role that was perfect for him.

My thoughts exactly, what an absolute fucktard Jericho showed himself to be, looked like an angry 13 year old rich kid having a tantrum at his daddy :disgust

John-ACWM 01-28-2009 08:14 AM

Boxing did that to his face. I think it's admirable from him to pursue his dream in boxing although he had a successful career in movies

CDSmith 01-28-2009 08:20 AM

I've heard nothing but good reviews about The Wrestler so far. Looking forward to seeing it.

The guy's had a rough decade, obviously.

webmasterchecks 01-28-2009 08:36 AM

He is alleged to have turned down a number of high-profile acting roles, including Eliot Ness in The Untouchables, Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop, Jack Crawford in The Silence of the Lambs, Tom Cruise's role in Rain Man, Nick Nolte's part in 48 Hrs., Christopher Lambert's part in Highlander and a part in Platoon. In a documentary on the special edition DVD of Tombstone, actor Michael Biehn, who plays the part of Johnny Ringo, mentions that his role was first offered to Rourke.[9]

OG LennyT 01-28-2009 08:42 AM

It's a storyline for their upcoming match at Wrestlemania 25.

CaptainHowdy 01-28-2009 09:11 AM

Not only his boxing, but his fights on the street. Every damn time the guy was on South beach he got into a fight.

goldflower 01-28-2009 01:29 PM

I watch yeasterday "Wrestler" with him and he looks horrible , in first moment I think that he have some mask at face but after few minutes I seen that he have to much operations (bad operations) at face. He always have Killer Face but few years ago he looks normal/natural but now , drugs , vodka , hardcore party and botox they kill him :(

But Bulit is still one of my best movie what I seen in my life !!!

BTW in movie "Wrestler" best moment been when he have fun like a fireman with some blond girl ;)

his role in "Barfly" was freaking great. I am a huge Bukowski fan and Rourke really put down a great character in that movie..
