Are we all hypocrites?

Complaining about tubes and then hitting the pirate bay soon as the latest Nas album is out or is it just me?

buzzy 01-28-2009 07:14 AM

Everybody has downloaded music from a torrent site at one point.

Cyndalie 01-28-2009 07:17 AM

Wrong toots.

I have never used an illegal music sharing, Napster, Limewire or whatever. Much less torrents.

This goes to show the common misconceptions of webmasters vs theft in this industry. There is not a single person I know in my real personal (non-adult) life.... from friends, acquaintances, models, business contacts,... who use any of these sites you mention. Including myself.

While some are technically proficient, they simply do not waste their time and just pay for what they want. Except porn. However, they admit to hitting TGP's and redtube. I can't remember all of their TGP's of choice, but I know none of them were the major one's mentioned on this board daily.

:2 cents:

FakeNick 01-28-2009 07:22 AM

i have never downloaded music illegally

movies porn and software on the other hand ;) LOL

i dont see whay people risk download pirated stuff you never know if its going to be infected with spyware or viruses much safer just to buy the movie or software

justinsain 01-28-2009 07:38 AM

surfline, one of the biggest surfing sites requested some pictures of mine. In lieu of payment they asked if I would take a one year premium membership. I told them I would but I would like the membership to go to a close surfing friend of mine who would get much more use out of it. They complied.

When my friend got the membership I explained what I had done and he thanked me and said he would just give me the password and we could both use the site. I told him I couldn't do that and he looked at me in disbelief.

I then explained to him that I don't want members of my sites sharing passwords so how can I.

I HATE hypocrisy.

If i don't complain about the tubes, is it ok to download some albums ?? :winkwink:

RayVega 01-28-2009 09:23 AM

Free stuff is just poor in quality or takes too damn long to download. I'm not into trying twenty times before getting a real version of it. Rather just pay the fee. I guess in this aspect, the resistance to free shit is working.

In criminal psychology we learned that:
5% of people are just criminals, always looking to get over anyway they can.

10% of people are truthful and honest and would NEVER do anything to get over.

85% of people are generally honest, but when presented with a certain amount of opportunity and temptation, will give into that temptation and try to get over.

Solution, take away the opportunity or limit the temptation with as much resistance as possible.

Si 01-28-2009 09:26 AM

no because nas is fucking shit :thumbsup

Tippy 01-28-2009 09:39 AM

Ah... I'm normal or at least 85% normal.

Nope, no illegal music downloads on my end, ever. And if I ever did, It sure as hell wouldn't be any of the shit you just mentioned. So yeah, i'm gonna have to say its just you.

Isn't buzzy only 16 years old or somewhere around that age? It amazes me that GFY even allows him on here and companies like Tube Clicks pay an underage kid to fly their banner in his sig...

nico-t 01-28-2009 10:53 AM

i downloaded the latest nas album and its shit, he released it about 70 years too late

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 01-28-2009 10:55 AM

I admit to trying it, and got a virus. So I stopped. curiosity overwhelmed me. It wasn't about trying to be illegal, but more about " if so many people get free stuff, why not me?" Didn't work. I still get CD's.

I've grabbed tunes off the web. Less then a couple thosand. Never any software though and I don't share the files I grab. I'm considerd a leech on Mirc. Most of the music I d/l I end up deleteing it right after I listen to it once anyway. Today's music sucks.

WarChild 01-28-2009 11:21 AM

I've downloaded stuff I've bought. In some cases I've bought albums on tapes and later again on CD. If I want a song off of an album like that, I just download the .mp3

raymor 01-28-2009 12:13 PM

How many of us have used stolen software? How many are still using stolen software?

The closest I've come to that in the last few years is that over the last five years
I've paid for three or four copies of Windows and I've used three or four copies,
each for only several hours. Theycopies I used weren't always the same copies
I've paid for, though, so that's a gray area I think. We could buy a computer without
Windows on it for $150 less, but we pay the extra $150, save the license key, then
delete Windows and put Linux on. Maybe a year later we'll need to check some
bullshit DRM software in Windows, so we slap it on a spare box to test something.

Right now my printer is printing a cease and desist letter for someone using small
parts stolen from Strongbox. (Yes we'll find you even if you just take out a few pieces
to steal - it pays for itself within weeks of buying it anyway, so that's the way to go.)

mynameisjim 01-28-2009 12:22 PM

I've never used torrents or downloaded anything pirated.

I have watched movies on tube sites though so I'm guilty of that.

The above statement I believe is true for over 2/3 of people in this country.

For music, I don't get piracy. I subscribe to Napster and get every song I want for like $15 month. It's not worth it to me to download illegally when I can get it free and legal and easy for a measly $15.

As for movies....you can rent movies for as little as .99 cents and can watch them on my regular TV. Why would I steal them?

People who download music illegally must be poor because the legal alternatives are sooooo cheap, it makes no sense.

has nothing to do with being and everything to do with being free. why the fuck would i even pay 25 cents for a song, when it is EASIER and FREE to grab the whole album in a matter of seconds? hell, i can grab an entire dvd rip on my new connection in like 8-12 minutes and be watching it before my fucking popcorn has popped. before the damn thing is even out of the theater!

i know this, the average internet user knows this now. i am surprised anyone here makes money being as 98% of gfy's webmasters are dealing in digital goods. get on with some tangible goods for fucks sakes or you're all going to be floating facedown soon enough...

Well, I guess if it is truly is easier to steal and I still pay for it, I must be an honest guy.

I always thought I was just too lazy to bother with stealing but now I'm filled with a satisfying feeling of self righteousness.

Nothing against you for being the honest guy! But that is all it is. Between torrents, and filesharing services there's pretty much nothing I can't find within moments, even some really oddball rare old shit that's next to impossible to buy anywhere.

I never have.

I still buy cds.. I don't own an mp3 player, nor an ipod, so have no use to download anything..

However, if I want to hear a certain song I don't have while I am online, I'll just look for it on youtube

I am.

I'm not afraid to admit it, everyone i know has downloaded songs or movies from the web at one point.

But does this fact mean we can't speak out about tube sites? That's the real question.

We are all hypocrits, but we do not all download free songs or movies, unless we are talking porn on tube sites, but that wouldnt really be downloading, or would it?
