monetization of fast growing free site - ideas?

Hi,

So I've got the fortunate problem of my site growing wayyy too fast. I got my bandwidth bill about 45 minutes ago and it's killing me.

My site is free and I need to monetize. I generally hate ads but will use non-invasive ads if I have to.

Any ideas? Any time-proven strategies? Should I look for ad networks, contact individual advertisers, or other things? I can no longer fund this site out-of-pocket.

Regards,
Redman

"I have a free site"... This is like you give the doctor a phone call asked to him "Hey doctor,i`m sick. What is the diagnostic?".:thumbsup
Youd could give us more info about your site, the niche what you promote it,the strategy..etc :)

RedMan 01-28-2009 02:15 PM

LoveSandra,

No problem. It's a "tube" site but with advanced features and a super-duper domain. We just sent out our initial press release the other day and traffic has been surging ever since. The site is completely free and enables people to watch videos, upload videos, add vids to favorites, add tags, etc., etc., with other advanced/web20 type features.

Redman,

It would be easier if You could give us a URL of the site. I don't see any dangerous situation for you if You share it with us. Your site is not secret, it's available 24/7 on the net and everyone can access it, right?

notime 01-28-2009 03:04 PM

sell text, video, banner & fixed spot ads thru www.ero-advertising.com

RedMan 01-28-2009 03:38 PM

Life78,

Consider it a redtube, youporn, or pornhub but with a better domain, better features and faster.

ok, then is simple ...... go to redtube, youporn, and pornhub and look what are they doing, try the same, tune details and you'll be fine

OverdueNudes 01-28-2009 06:58 PM

This is hilarious that you won't tell us your site. Absolutely hilarious. It clearly is a piece of shit if you won't share it

Jack Sparrow 01-28-2009 07:39 PM

Im not even considering giving advise to someone barging in here, with his superduper domain and ohso fast growing site that cant even give out the url to it.

Whip it out, or it didnt happen.

jmcb420 01-28-2009 10:11 PM

stonehammer 01-28-2009 11:23 PM

lol..hope the superduper site isnt full of 30min videos !

ContentPimp 01-29-2009 12:26 AM

Black Label Ads, it's like adsense for adult :)

RedMan 01-29-2009 06:50 AM

Tinafaye,

Thanks for the info. Is Black Label Ads what most people are using? I've looked into etology as well. Are there other ones people have had real world success with? Is it unheard of for, say, a large adult dating site (or other relevant service) to buy up ad slots on a quality free site or is everything in this industry PPC, revshare, etc?

pornguy 01-29-2009 11:46 AM

There are tons of ways to promote the site and make sales with it. But you wont get the help here you need.

It seems that you must have illegal content, otherwise you would have been more than willing to share the domain with us.

Sell ad space. I do great with Black Label Ads
Good luck:thumbsup

RedMan 01-31-2009 11:22 AM

Lacuna,

Since starting this thread I'm now running BLA and Etology -- one of each site-wide. The BLA is outperforming the Etology ad by about 2x. I still have more experimentation to do and am not counting Etology out yet.

What I am trying to do now is, instead of running one ad site-wide, nail the targeting down so that, say, ads appealing to girl-on-girl/lesbian/solo-female content appear on pages with that content. Same with all the other niches, etc. I haven't yet figured out if I can get this type of targeting but would surely increase clicks.

Any BLA/other tips?

RedMan 01-31-2009 11:31 AM

Just got an email from BLA as i submitted my last post.

Quote:

We currently do not have niche targeting for different types of adult content. The targeting is primarily user based, and we will display an ad if it is predicted to have a high click through rate on your site. For example if a site is about college students, we may display an ad for music because the user would be interested in it. The ad would have a high click-through, but the match is not strictly contextual.
So it looks like what I am aiming for is not really how BLA was designed. Does anyone know of other ad networks/solutions that would enable me to run ads contextually based on niche content sections? The overall goal being to increase click rates... I.e... don't show a "gay male" ad on a page with lesbian content.

Where did you submit your press release?

papill0n 01-31-2009 03:26 PM

try to remember that we are in the business of selling porn

RedMan 01-31-2009 09:20 PM

RageCash-Ben,

I admit: I have been puzzled by your message. I'm sure I'm just dense but I have to know... Is your comment in reference to a particular post? This thread started as an effort to sell -- "porn" ads (which, chances are, ultimately lead to "porn") -- or were you referencing the thread in general? As originator of the thread, I'm looking for ideas to monetize a quote porn site having absolute zero experience in this niche industry up until now.

RedMan

I'm not 100% sure, but I suppose that RageCash-Ben wanted to point how free tube sites are gonna to kill the whole "business of selling porn"
.

BLa generally pays better then etology (my experiences).
However if you wanne make even more then with BLa you can always try AAW

For the rest I would try to use ads that are niche specific to the movies you have on your tube site.
If it is all lot of niches thru each other you can try: Skinvideo

sex-money 02-16-2009 10:36 AM

Check out my SIG.

SmokenCess 02-16-2009 09:10 PM

Cam and dating sites do well with tubes, especially if your niche is Amateur videos. Blend a couple live cam feeds with your content and the money will start coming in. AAW and Madisonave (great Support) are the best ad networks imo.

sexy-frenchie 02-17-2009 07:15 AM

Still curious about the URL, unless you're afraid GFY will send you too much traffic?

Or a DMCA notice...:winkwink:

mineistaken 02-17-2009 12:16 PM

so you can use that stolen content (whic is probably stolen from many people who post here at GFY ) to sell dating and webcams. I am sure content owners would love it

HomerSimpson 02-20-2009 11:13 AM

from the thread title I knew it was about tube site...
Anyway, I'm going to use some good old plain logic in here...
Did you had any strategy or at least ideas, before building the site, how to cover your cost of that site? Obviously not! And here's why: you didn't spend a dollar for content on that site! Because if you did - you'd also seek the way how to get it back (and multiply it...)! All this is telling me that you are running illegal tube site and IMHO unless you post the tube url in here it's pointless helping you in the first place..

HookUPcom 02-20-2009 12:20 PM

I'm not going to speculate about your site... But we just launched an affiliate program, and HookUP.com is converting very well.

You might want to give us a shot.

Porko 02-20-2009 02:27 PM

buddy...add adv there!

RedMan 02-24-2009 09:51 AM

OK, I coded up a contextual-ad serving platform over the weekend. I'm hoping it will create better returns. It basically displays advertisements in-context to what is being viewed on the page. For example:
  • Someone visits the homepage, "general" ads are displayed.
  • Someone visits a content providers tag, ads for that content provider are shown.
  • For videos being viewed, ads are shown based on the tags
  • Ads are shown in the search engine in-context of search criteria

In general, the engine tries to be as specific as possible and if it can't find something highly in context it will pull from the general pool. Contained in the pool are:
  • Ad networks: Etology, Adult Ad World, Madison Avenue, Black Label Ads
  • Content Providers Associated Affiliate Programs
  • Other associated affiliate programs (e.g., Adult Dating, Live Web Cams, etc.)

I'll be monitoring this over the week to see how well it does. If the ad returns continue to be disappointing I'll be forced to close certain parts of the site and then charge monthly subscriptions for "Full Access".

Questions:
  • Are there good examples of successful adult video sites monetizing through advertising alone?
  • Does anyone else have problems with Madison Avenue stats taking FOREVER to generate?
  • Has anyone else experience Adult Ad World ads sometimes not displaying?
  • Any other tips?

James Tony 02-24-2009 01:45 PM

I'm going to take a shot in the dark and guess your site is www.nakedtube.com

brassmonkey 02-28-2009 07:47 PM

hmm ok then
