Mainly VCs, influential bloggers, etc. Great way to network and build links and also get the latest info. Good way to spread your blog updates too :) Get on the train, playa:thumbsup

I have more than one twitter account. Though none I would really post here. Perhaps I need a more general or adult one.

I have found two business leads from using Twitter in less than two weeks. It's a great place for business, networking, finding fans for your sites, sharing thoughts, asking for help, sharing good links, and so on..

Checking out twitter, seen it around but..

TheDoc 01-28-2009 06:28 PM

Go grab the software http://www.twhirl.org/ it's free, it works like an IM for Twitter. You can monitor the random chats more, then see any messages to you or direct messages sent. Direct messages are like IM or icq messages..

Twitter has lots of tools too, you can post your blog updates straight into twitter, you can post I think all cell phone types, emails, twhirl, other IM's, and so on. Tools to welcome people, find exfollowers, track other stats and so on. It also integrates with most other social sites (like facebook), so you can share your tweets from it to others, or from others to your twitter account.

You can retweet posts you like, to share them with others. Doing it with others expands your base of exposure on your name and whatever you are sharing. And gets others doing it.

You can have 'at least' 90k followers, so your marketing potential is pretty much unlimited.

Don't get me wrong... I'm not a twitter master, but it's growing on me so I'm reading up on it. So if you have any questions, just drop me a tweet or a dm and I will see what I can do to help ya out.

alias 01-28-2009 06:30 PM

Thx TD bookmarking this thread for reference and checking out twhirl.

alias 01-28-2009 06:34 PM

Installed twhirl, notice it seems to handle multiple accounts do you guys just have one account or a few?

nottslad 01-28-2009 06:40 PM

Seems like a huge timesink for minimal gain.

Went ahead and added a GANG of people. Follow me and I'll follow you. Also, check out who the people you're following are following--create a huge network :)

alias 01-28-2009 06:50 PM

nottslad I don't know.

also I tried to edit my profile and got:

Twitter is over capacity.
Too many tweets! Please wait a moment and try again.

If you can just type urls and info you come across in the bar or copy paste, it might be worth the extra couple of seconds to get your shit out there.

nottslad 01-28-2009 07:39 PM

alias: It's certainly a busy site, I just wonder about it's effectiveness as an adult marketer. Possibly with webmaster services it might bring some work but sales to adult sites I cant see it.

I know a few people who are on there and use it for their blogs.... their blogs are the kind about their life and what the cat did today etc that they update in the evenings after work. They tell me they get some traffic from it but spend a lot of time doing tweets or whatever it is called to get traffic that doesnt buy anything.

Twitter is for chatters not for people who want to buy/sell stuff imho.

From your post above.. In two weeks I have used it probably 3 hours total, far less time than ICQ and forum whoring. Twitter produced direct b2b for me, twice.

For surfers, porn, ect.. I have several solo models and pornstars that I follow, most have many more followers, or fans.. than I do. You can put your customer support up, group your members up, become social with your fans, get your models up, your own personality, ect.. Expose yourself to possible millions that would otherwise never see your brand, ads, sites, personality, ect.

Flesh light has contests, gamelink is on and has fans/followers, the list goes on. Social sites and marketing isn't limited to any one type of use, it has 1000's.

Mutt 01-29-2009 07:03 AM

are the fonts on all Twitter pages that small? it's ridiculous.

looking at these pages i don't get it - are there blog posts attached to these short sentence entries?

TheDoc 01-29-2009 07:35 AM

I'm going to write more about Twitter today.. But let me try to give an example that may help.

Yes, the posts are, and look like tiny rants of trash. These are either me saying something to all my followers, like good morning. Or me responding to someone else, so like hearing only half a phone call conversation.

It's no different than posting on several forums at once. Marketing wise, business.. forums can be used for anything, support, clients, members, every niche/subject in the world.

Twitter isn't a lot different, it's how you use it. If you want to build fans for your porn site, then do it. If you want to build your name for your mainstream stuff, then have it.

You can plug your facebook account in, and other social sites and services.

Lots of Webmasters are on it, lots of Webmasters that you never seen on forums, are on it.

This is a great example of why our Industry can't figure out how to grow. We simply refuse the technology and trends that contain millions of unique users and eyeballs that would otherwise never see you, your brands, your products, whatever it is. And we can use it!

The key thing, is be you.. like you are on forums. Don't spam, chat.. be part of it, that's what we do here and that's what you do on any social site.

Mutt 01-29-2009 07:50 AM

am i the only one who's seeing the teeny tiny text size on Twitter? it's almost unreadable.

My resolution is at 1920x1200 and the text size is no different than what I see on gfy or most sites.

I use it for personal/general things and for business!

www.twitterholic.com - see how many people are following the top twitterers...

And still say it isn't popular!

It's a clever broadcast medium now.

I could definitely see that.

On the other hand TheDoc knows his shit, and has for years. If TD is saying that it is something worthwhile then it is for him.

Just offhand it seems like a place that a guru could flourish, or a fetish content producer/publisher. You would have to make yourself an authority perhaps.. .

I dont use Twitter, else I would have followed you Gene :)

Open up problogger.net, very top featured article is "The Day 250,000 People Showed Up At My Blog: Case Study" - I'm not going to link him up from Adult..

The short of it is this. He owns a Photography/Camera Blog, a niche. He wrote a post on this site showing 15 cool pictures showing off long exposure photography, a micro niche. Through his social network of friends, business connections, a chain reaction started.

The end result, 250k people visited one article. Money increased 5-6 times the normal levels. He picked up 'several 1000 more' feed and newsletter subscribers, 200 links pointing to the post.

Amazing... This sounds like something that happened 8 years, it sure as hell doesn't happen today in our Industry.... but that's damn sure enough proof for me, that it can happen!

And money, I think 5-6 times, 1000's of new readers/newsletter people, that's probably a larger single jump day than the majority of us have seen... in years.

I just know what I see, I see models with 1000's of followers, they aren't Webmasters, they are porn surfers. I see SU with tons of porn, kick ass porn, and godly traffic. Twitter, su, delicious, and others have and do send me traffic, links are links, it takes 1 to make 1000's....

it's an IE6 issue - i had a feeling everybody couldn't be seeing what i was.

designers and webmasters are absolutely negligent when it comes to IE6 - 20% of surfers still use IE6. 1 out of 5 surfers sees a fucked up website because the designer/coder ignored IE6.

kinda like the same thing that happened with facebook. early adopters left in mass exodus. EVERYONE else joined.

Twitter just had a huge wave of new signups.

Now if they could only come up with a business plan.

Like any social service or forum, people come and go. But the early Facebook users didn't quit Facebook, they graduated. Once Facebook went mainstream, they returned, but they couldn't all return to the old college accounts.
