Alphared was far from the best, just cheap with poor service and eventually left many of their clients screwed in the end. You can find good hosting for tubes from many providers.

Please feel free to contact me for a solution that best meets your needs in our NYC datacenter.

he said he doesn't host ILLEGAL tubes, if the people own the content themselves and want to give it away that is their business.

No one touched alphared on price when they were around.

The only poor service people got where the ones expecting them to manage anything but their network

LOL

Agreed, but it was obviously a poor business model considering they were selling for less than they were paying! :upsidedow

Their transit cost was $3/Meg and they peered off a ton of gigabits from between $0 - $2/Megabit

Actually, you're wrong on all accords.

First, they peered almost nothing off locally. They had to buy transport, ports, colocation and equipment to facilitate peering in other cities. Ultimately, they paid almost as much for the "free peering" as they did for transit.

Next, even on Cogent they were paying $4 per megabit on full 10G circuits, over 100 gigabit worth. The Level3 they were buying was $5.50 per megabit. They had a couple other places selling them small amounts of select routes at a lower rate, but that's it. No magic beans here.

Lastly, Sandman for you, how many times do we have to tell you it just didn't work out and the demise wasn't just legalities? They were selling 100 gigabit at less than half their cost per megabit to one customer.

That is totally incorrect information. I could retype it all in my own words and 1st hand knowledge but I don't have the time so if you read Brads post above you will get the basic point. Also Sandman as you and I have talked many times before and also as Mike (webair) posted above their entire biz model was foolish and destined to fail like many others have that could on;y get customers because of ridiculous cheap priices and no other way. Being the cheapest and selling below cost is a sure path to the bankruptcy line. Like in any biz you need to see your product at a profit and that margin needs to cover all costs and then have a little left over for profit and future growth ect.....

:pimp

sandman! 01-29-2009 06:13 PM

I agree that their priceing would be hard to keep up for a long time.

but they did seem to make it for quite along time.

there is another company selling bandwith at thier kind of pricing that seems to be doing well tho and expanding.
