Just sold two winter scenic pics - $450/apiece

I was in a local photo shop getting some hi-res prints done - and the shop owner expressed an interest in buying copies of two winter landscape shots I'd taken locally.

He asks how much I wanted for them.

I told him I don't sell my landscape shots.

So he offers me $450 for each.

Momma didn't raise no fool.

:thumbsup

mikesinner 02-05-2009 08:01 PM

Damn, even pussy shots don't sell for that much.

Zorgman 02-05-2009 08:01 PM

Bargin, can we see? or does he now have the rights too.

Sosa 02-05-2009 08:04 PM

Hey pry already has them resold :)

I'd never sell the rights for any price.

He simply bought prints.

Perhaps you need to get more prints up for sale in local places if someone will drop that amount in these times and all.

Naw, just in the right place at the right time with the lens :winkwink:

Actually, the day I shot those I'd just recovered from a bad bout of bronchitis and pneumonia and had to shake off some cabin fever. Went for a short hike on a local trail and found the perfect temperature conditions.

That's our goal...eventually.

The wife and I want to open a mall kiosk and sell framed prints - somewhere down the road. Just gotta put together the finances to get it underway.

NaughtyRob 02-05-2009 08:46 PM

Seems he could have printed extra copies for himself and you would not have even known, very honest guy there to shell out $900.

MandyBlake 02-05-2009 08:48 PM

holy crap! awesome!

I've dealt with the guy for several years. He's been in business for decades and is as honest as the day is long.

He just personally liked the shots and said he planned to have them matted and framed to display in the store, but not for resale.

LiveDose 02-05-2009 08:58 PM

Good job man. Beautiful shots.

bloggingseo 02-05-2009 10:46 PM

You are also lucky to live in a place surrounded with such stunning beauty

congrats on your sales

MissMina 02-06-2009 12:30 AM

Very nice photos. I love snow.

ztik 02-06-2009 12:55 AM

those are nice but really he's dumb for paying 450

KillerK 02-06-2009 01:40 AM

Can you put a high res one I can use as my background? If you don't want to post it for all of gfy I can email you. I have no intention to try and resell or steal it, just are cool pics and would look great on my dual 30" displays.

Paul&John 02-06-2009 01:54 AM

Damn nice pics!

Carmine Raguso 02-06-2009 03:33 AM

I call bullshit on this. Nobody pays $450 for two fucking snapshots from a fucking photolab. Nice pictures I guess, but any dip shit with a 35mm could have snapped those. I see nothing so special other than snow.

I have seen shitloads of photographers have their work up in mini galleries and inside of upscale restaurants up here that have such artists and other artisan workers selling their goods for prices just like that if not more. Seen many photos that were no less than 1,500.00 each and they just were pictures of Mount Shasta. Now sure they guy now has a good rep for his photography and that area. He also spent like 6-8 hours getting that shot, waiting for the right light and all of that. Still that is the way it is and he sells photos all of the time, just like many others in the store.

Fuck I bought a damn wooden wind chime and a brass rain chime for a fuck load of money myself.

seeandsee 02-06-2009 04:19 AM

nice photos?

DarkJedi 02-06-2009 05:19 AM

This thread is a total troll.

People are getting $3-$5 for photos these days. PROFESSIONALS not some dipshit who thinks snow-covered barns are "amazing."

The bottom has fallen out of the market. To suggest that some sweaty Greek would offer you $900 (and rather than just, say, TAKE them) for those things is the very picture of farce.

Matt 26z 02-06-2009 07:20 AM

lol I'm calling bullshit also.

Decent shots to go on a Flickr account or something, but $450 each to hang on the wall? Please.

HorseShit 02-06-2009 07:21 AM

looks cold as fuck

The Duck 02-06-2009 07:42 AM

The nice thing about dealing with this photo/camera store is - I go there on a fairly regular basis.

Since the fella who bought them is the owner and said he'd be displaying them in the store...I'll take a photo of them when they're printed, matted, framed and hanging in the store - just so I can illustrate what a Doubting Thomas jackass you are. :1orglaugh

To the rest of ya's - thanks for the kind words and feedback. I tossed this thread up with the idea of passing along a little inspiration for those of you who do photography other than just the adult content.

DONT do that.

In fact, it was all luck, I'd say. I don't go around soliciting my landscape photography (yet)...it was all just lucky timing.

Obviously I've seen better photography by others over the years - and much worse photography sell for as much (if not more). It comes down to the personal taste of the buyer. I guess this guy saw something in the composition he personally liked - fuck, for all I know the area is his favorite fishing hole. Maybe its the place he got lucky for the first time and played stinky finger in the backseat of his daddy's Dodge Rambler.

I didn't ask why he offered to buy them at the price he did and give him the excuse to re-think it.
