Any non-PAE enabled kernel will address up to 3.2GB.

Same principle applies to Windows. 32-bit = up to 3.2GB. 64-bit = up to 64GB.

Nothing weird about 3gb. What's weird is not have a 3gb option when it's a common number.

Every machine I use has 3 GB. I built one with 4 and had Vista 64 on it but scrapped that shit for another XP with 3gb.

RastaSkull 02-08-2009 01:32 PM

2G Desktop

woj 02-08-2009 04:22 PM

What do you guys use 8G for? Just have 8G to feel elite or do you guys actually do some hardcore multimedia work on it?

InternetIsForPorn 02-08-2009 04:30 PM

2Gb on my lappy and 1gb on the desktop

And I use the desktop to encode video

You'd be surprised at how productive the desktop can be when you run NOTHING ELSE on it.

It also has a 5x weaker processor on it, but works like a charm (several times faster than the lappy)

dial 02-08-2009 04:32 PM

2gb laptop and 3gb desktop

munki 02-08-2009 04:38 PM

8 GB main, 4 GBs in each render whore, 2 GBs in my backup, and 3 GBs in teh lappies

femdomdestiny 02-08-2009 04:41 PM

No idea. My computer has all the Internet into a single floppy. I made a backup of the Internet a couple of hours ago.

Must ask my hardware provider about that. His name is Neo. My computer is a Matrix 5.0 model.

Hope this helps you

With dual-channel ram being so widespread, 3GB isn't a common number at all.. are all your machines running in triple-channel mode already?

Sosa 02-08-2009 06:34 PM

4 gig in the macbook

ExLust 02-08-2009 06:39 PM

RAM was/is(?) so cheap so I bought a lot of it. But I often run Virtual machines on my computer, but I dont think I need 8 gb for it...

grumpy 02-09-2009 06:40 AM

as much as possible since the cost memory is almost free
