just some domains I got stashed away in storage, nothing serious for me this time, but it is still a piss off and stuff like that can cause big problems for those of us that are spread thin all over the place and don't feel like spending time fixing unnecessary work

This is why all webmasters should have a dedicated server as soon as they are able.

Your first 3 signups should go to pay the $99/mo it'll probably cost you for a decent server.

agreed...

I'm not sure how a professional webmaster could work on shared hosting. Blame yourself really.

doridori 02-08-2009 08:06 PM

well if you have anything important running on shared hosting its quite dangerous.

a purpose for everything, I can't afford nor need to have a dozen dedicateds all over the world, but having a couple dedicateds and some shared hosting here and there works out for what I am doing :2 cents:

Yes, we all are very poor. Couldn't even afford that $59 server deal either! :2 cents:

Jakez 02-08-2009 08:42 PM

How much are the cheap servers now? I remember when everyone was going crazy over managed.com's $89/mo deal..

I don't see any backfire, I have shared accounts on a number of different hosts, I think it is a good way to go rather than just adding ip's to the dedicateds, don't see anything wrong with that, the domains I have on the shareds don't get much traffic anyways, but many of them have pr and are good for what I have them there for... to get more dedicateds all over the place doesn't make sense and would be a waste of money for that purpose, and they also tend to cost more then $59 other than very few providers worth talking about....

I guess you could make a halfass argument for just sticking them on different ips on a single dedicated, but I still think this a better way to be truly spread out :2 cents:

Whats the big deal about shared hosting? I have 3 shared hosting accounts, 1 slice at slicehost on top of a dedicated server.

fatfoo 02-08-2009 09:27 PM

Yeah, it does end up fucking up a server for everybody.

bdld 02-08-2009 09:33 PM

nothing wrong with having shared hosting, i have shared hosting accounts with about 15 different hosts and counting.

Miguel T 02-08-2009 09:33 PM

I so hear you!

spacedog 02-08-2009 11:30 PM

I'll never go back to shared hosting ever again.. fuck that.

kmanrox 02-09-2009 02:50 AM

i used nulled wordpress and sale cheap too

V_RocKs 02-09-2009 03:57 AM

OK, let me get this straight.

You don't want to shell out the money to get a dedicated box but you want others to pay for their scripts?

Get a dedicated box.

seeandsee 02-09-2009 04:08 AM

that's fucked

StaceyJo 02-09-2009 04:35 AM

Poor budgeting.

bhutocracy 02-09-2009 05:51 AM

Ooo look at all the blingers.. lol.

He's said he's got dedicated.. I don't see the problem.. If you've been in the biz more than a couple of years you'll likely have at least some legacy accounts that are shared... Some are for different business accounts.. Sometimes you want to test something in a different environment... Sometimes you couldn't be assed moving 50 doms on a $10 account... Either you guys are really organised or you're just not doing enough.
