Yahoo Launchcast Music Service Shuts down.

Wow...

I use this service for music in my house and have used it for almost 2 years and they are shutting down on the 12th.

FUCK! Anyone know of a music service provider that is simular??

Barefootsies 02-10-2009 02:52 PM

That sucks. I have been a subscriber for five or more years.

CBS Radio is taking over. I see a resurgence in CBS between advertising, music, and media. I wonder if a spin off is in the works.

Yeah Man. The YahooMusic Service is awesome and we had all these stations worked out, the moods area was the playground and a couple stations were perfected.

The Saved information I guess in the moods set up with the rating will be used in the new CBS deal that are supposedly comming sometime "This Year" as they say on the update.

Blah. The whole set up is fucked now and its only got 2 more days left of service till CBS fucks everything up. I do not plan on staying a member.

Well I got a "Fanatic Rating" on Yahoo having rated over 10,000 songs while using the service for 5 years. SO this change is a pretty major loss. I like my music and have very specific taste for Ambient DOwntempo to Metal/Rock. If you use Yahoo you know Fanatic rating is hardcore.

I am Psycho about what I listen to music wise, its very specific stuff and the majority of Music stations have no clue and throw random shit at you to weed through...

AND it will no longer allow subscription to skip all commercials.

GAH! I'm fucked.

We are deeply, deeply sorry to say that due to licensing constraints, we can no longer allow access to Pandora for listeners located outside of the U.S. We will continue to work diligently to realize the vision of a truly global Pandora, but for the time being we are required to restrict its use. We are very sad to have to do this, but there is no other alternative.

Yikes the news even made TechCrunch.

"Yahoo continues to outsource lots of businesses it previously built and maintained directly. Especially in music - In February they shut their subscription music service, and in September they announced a deal to allow full song playbacks through the Rhapsody service.

Next up is Yahoo’s radio product, http://music.yahoo.com/launchcast. The site today, which draws 3 million monthly unique visitors says Yahoo, allows users to listen to music based on preferred genres and artists. But Launchcast is limited only to Windows users on Internet Explorer, shutting out a large percentage of the Internet.

Next year they’ll shutter the service and relaunch with CBS Radio, much as AOL did earlier this year. CBS provides streaming for 144 owned radio stations, as well as providing some Internet-only content.

CBS will also take over ad sales for Launchcast, offering advertisers both display, video and audio ads.

The new service will roll out sometime in the first quarter of 2009. Paid subscribers to Launchcast will receive a pro-rata refund (an ad-free version of Launchcast is available for $3/month or $24/year)."

Um it's going to be FREE. So by not "staying a member" I'm not sure what you mean.

my wife uses this and has caught me off gaurd when i walk in and hear old Slayer and even Amon Amarth. I have my own station and it plays quite a few good albums,... however, many songs I simply do not want to hear.

after she added a few bands of my taste into her mix, its much better station lol

i dont have the patience for thosr though and just hit "play all" on win amp on folders of niche music...

tranza 02-11-2009 08:52 AM

Shutdown forever or for a while? There's a specific reason to this?

cherrylula 02-11-2009 08:57 AM
