Sadly, Patrick Swayze is a victim of smoking. He's been a heavy smoker his whole life.

I saw part of the Barbara Walters interview he did about a month ago, and I couldn't believe that he said he is still smoking cigarettes! I just couldn't believe it. He even acknowledged that he believed smoking was "part of it". As in part of the reason he got pancreatic cancer. He said he has his "priorities." Hopefully, he will survive. He'll be lucky if he does survive, though... as pancreatic cancer has a 4% survival rate.

You make yourself more susceptible to cancer in general if you are a smoker, though. I know that you double the risk of colon cancer if you smoke.

Used to love that show.

At first I was appalled that he was so cavalier about it, about keeping on with his smoking habit even though he's facing his own demise. But after thinking about it I can only surmise that it's one of those things where you only have so many simple pleasures left in your life, and for him smoking is one of them. Giving up the habit at the point he's at probably wouldn't do much towards "saving his life" anyway, he's been at it too long.

So I can sort of see why he would choose not to give it up, in that light. (see what I did there? "light?" :D )

smoking does not mean youll die from lung cancer, but it will speed up the process of cancer in your body and it is highly likely other types of cancer can occur in heavy smokers, not just lung cancer.

alcohol also speeds up the growth process

Fletch XXX 02-18-2009 09:35 AM

also its being reported he hasnt stopped smoking the entire time hes been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

As i said above, alcohol will speed up pancreatic cancer faster than you can imagine... no secret he drinks and smokes.

still smoking: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/0...k_n_91486.html

I know its sad but this sort of thing is not by accident, and Swayze himself is definitely responsible for the behavior that lead to this.
