did you know the simpsons have been on for 20 yrs

I just heard that on tv, I didnt realize it had been on for so long.

baddog 02-16-2009 07:07 PM

Well, I remember my kids were watching it when my son was in kindergarten or preschool and he will be 25 in April, so yeah, would not be surprised if a little longer than that.

NicelyWritten 02-16-2009 07:08 PM

Yep, it's a great show indeed! I grew up on it :).

tony286 02-16-2009 07:09 PM

They said they just got oked for their 21st season which makes them beat out Gunsmoke as the longest running tv series.

chupachups 02-16-2009 07:09 PM

Yes its crazy. When they started airing it here (sweden), about 18-20 years or so ago, there were actually ppl trying to ban it. I remember kids wearing badges "Allow Simpsons on Tv3" and so on lol..

munki 02-16-2009 07:10 PM

I can't even remember life before Simpsons.... It's just always kinda been there.

Diomed 02-16-2009 07:22 PM

20 years for real?

and here I thought that I saw them when they first came out.. I'm 25,

and I remember them before they had there own shown featured on the Tracey Ullman Show, after it and before the Al Bundy thing.

Then they got their own show .. Can't remember what the segment was called on tracey ullman.

Diomed 02-16-2009 07:23 PM

But I can promise you I wasn't just 5.. no fucking way.

spunky99 02-16-2009 07:43 PM

yeah its been 20 years... shylajenning's wasnt even born yet when they first came on..

The Simpsons began life as a series of 30-second cartoons on The Tracey Ullman Show in 1987.

The Simpsons is the only non-variety show with guest appearances by George Harrison, Paul McCartney, and Ringo Starr.

President George Bush blamed them for society's ills, famously claiming that American families should be less like The Simpsons and more like The Waltons, while First Lady Barbara Bush described the show as the "dumbest thing" she ever saw.

I remember watching the little snippets of Simpsons between skits on the Tracey Ullman show. :thumbsup

I remember attending a PTA meeting and the principal getting up and talking about the evils of the Simpson's. I could not believe that he thought it was actually a children's show.

I remember it sucking its first season, but then i started smoking pot & it was much funnier.

Without a doubt the best televisions series of all time.

When you factor in the quality and the longevity and the fact that little kids are just discovering the show now because of it's timeless style, there is no other TV show that's even close.

I'm still amazed at how perfect episodes like "Lisa's wedding" and "Summer of 4 foot 2" are. Not to mention episodes like "Sideshow Bob Roberts" where conservative talk radio sweeps an evil Sideshow bob into office (complete with a rigged election). Although 14 years old that episode seemed perfectly timely in 2008 as well as in 2004.

ExLust 02-17-2009 12:38 AM

Yes, that sounds cool.

Seriously, the Simpsons were the cause of everything wrong with America back in 1992, now nobody bats an eye at South Park. Hell, even South Park has stepped way past the line that was there when it first started.

The Duck 02-17-2009 02:44 AM

I think it kind of sucks.

J. Falcon 02-17-2009 04:21 AM

And it still kicks the shit out of Family Guy.

Loki 02-17-2009 04:30 AM

I honestly thought it was longer then 20 years lol, was actually surprised it was only 20

Sarah_Jayne 02-17-2009 05:49 AM

I can remember it starting up when I was in middle school and the talk of the school being what was written on the blackboard on the episode the night before.

tranza 02-17-2009 08:26 AM

John-ACWM 02-17-2009 08:33 AM
