Windosws 7 ???

What do you think??? http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/

I'm using the public beta on my main machine and It feels like a final release. All software runs like a charm, and the OS is FAST...I mean...REALLY FAST. I never really realised just how much of a whore vista was...however this build of 7 at least (we'll see if it changes) is just so god damn fast it's stupid. Photoshop starts up at like 60% quicker than in vista...boot up/down times are like 60-80% faster as well, at least for me.

I (and I imagine most webmasters) run a lot of programs simultaneously...and vista didn't seem to handle that so great, even with a pile of ram, however 7 seems to tackle this problem much much much better. LOVE the new taskbar too, took about 3 minutes to get used to it, and could not go back lol.

Windows 7 is totally what vista SHOULDA been...hopefully it stays this good right through release

where can I get my hand on it, The site says I can get the key but not a download.

MindWaste 02-20-2009 03:14 AM

Might as well stop thinking of making people go for new computers every few years and super chargfe them by now. Virus and spyware will bring in all the newbs for new computrs every year.

silvija 02-20-2009 04:15 AM

Windosws 7 is an improvement on Vista, improving on failure isn't difficult. XP still works fine.

Voodoo 02-20-2009 04:40 AM

I'm still wondering if they are going to free-upgrade everyone that paid for Windows Vista.

seeandsee 02-20-2009 04:45 AM

looks good :)

NicelyWritten 02-20-2009 04:50 AM

Using the beta on a machine of mine, looks alright, but I prefer Vista still at this time. The next release should be better.

nation-x 02-20-2009 04:52 AM

Microsoft pulled the beta weeks ago... I have it running on my machine and it does have a couple of issues. I have a Geforce 8800GT and firefox has graphics corruption (I have to run minefield). Also, I noticed that there seems to be some issues with file permissions occasionally. Sometimes when I download a file it tells me that I have to be an administrator to save the file. It always works on the second try to save the file though. wierd. Also... some programs that run on vista won't run on Windows 7 and will just crash.

I wish I could fail like MS did with vista, selling hundreds of millions of copies......

Release Candidate 1 is said to come on Feb 27th (source: Winfuture) so it could be launched earlier than expected

james_clickmemedia 02-20-2009 06:02 AM

I don't car about fancy new tool bars, I just want a stable operating system.
Every vista machine we have in the office is so slow even when loaded with ram..

tranza 02-20-2009 06:05 AM

I've downloaded beta test and I think 7 will be an awesome OS... Some improvements and fixes that didn't have on vista...

HorseShit 02-20-2009 06:32 AM

Windows 7 is nice for a Microsoft OS

OS X still blows it out of the water 2c

I remember reading a story that said exactly this, that vista users will get a free upgrade to windows 7. Let me see if I can find the story to validate this.

dav3 02-20-2009 06:36 AM

It's partially correct.

All PCs bought with a Windows Vista license on or after July 1, 2009 to January 1, 2010 qualify for a free upgrade to Windows 7. OEMs may choose to shorten the period within those dates. All upgrade media must be shipped to end users by April 30, 2010.

Windows 7 will rock, I totally skipped Vista but I'm so getting Windows 7, I just hope they don't sell it for $1k or more

bbobby86 03-10-2009 07:21 AM

i will skip vista too... can`t wait to get wondows 7... i get new PC...

Paul Waters 03-10-2009 07:34 AM

I have been running Windows 7 for two months on a quad core AMD system with 4 gigs ram

I had to upgrade from my ancient single core and wanted to go 64 bit but not buy a licence for 9 months.

7 has performed really well, but I never used Vista so I can't compare.

I had a couple crashes early on, and the mouse driver got drunk once, requiring a re-boot. No other problems.

I run PS 64 bit and it screams!

I assume the Vista consumer beta gave M$ the time to get 7 right.

You must be doing something very wrong. My machine with Vista on it is fast as fuck.

bbobby86 03-10-2009 07:47 AM

Vista can be slow. I think 7 will get everything done dood...
Windows seven will be the best operation sistem ever!?

I don't believe this is going to happen...
because of Bill Gates saying "sheep fur should be cut regularly" (paraphrased)
so he wants another "cut" of your "fur" (cash)

DarkJedi 03-10-2009 09:25 AM

it's a good and stable OS, but the interface pisses me the fuck off.

is it possible to make it look like XP/Vista? (the classic look)

the menu bar, program menus, etc?

ro8in 03-10-2009 09:46 AM

Let me tell you what is the problem with Microsofts whole strategy..

While the world is evolving and more and more poeple are getting more advanced in working on their PC.. Microsoft is going in the opposite direction on making their OS more and more for retarded people..

Shouldn't they have started to make their OS retard proof first and evolving their OS with the rest of the world to do more advanced things??

They are soo heading for the wrong direction. Nobody cares for easy to use hardware and home networking screens. Yes offcourse their still people out there who have never touched a computer but the ammount of these people gets less by the day.. I really dont understand why Microsoft keeps focusing more and more on these people with every release while these people are becoming a rare..

They should be focusing on helping the more advanced users do their task. There's a much bigger market nowadays.

Im not an Apple fan and I got a Vista laptop but I have to admit Apple is going in a much better direction for example they go from ipod to iphone they understand that we are not anymore in the age where 9 out of 10 people never saw a PC.. Microsoft just dont seem to get this..

aniloscash 03-10-2009 02:17 PM

I'm really happy with the beta I just wish it wouldnt expire in aug

who 03-10-2009 02:19 PM

As I've stated before, this is still not the new generation Windows, but much, much closer to it than Vista.

bobby666 03-10-2009 03:09 PM

at least i want my money back for that vista shit

Puremeds-J 03-10-2009 03:13 PM

The load speeds is my only real bitch about vista, so it'll be nice to see how quick 7 is on my machine.

I have it installed in my other computers and runs very nice.

Install it and try it by yourself. It worth the try.

Vista - NT 6.0
Windows 7 - NT 6.1.

Not a big deal :2 cents:

P.S. And yes, XP64 is still the best OS from m$.

RadicalSights 03-27-2009 05:30 AM

Windows XP is still faster than Windows 7.

pornocruto 03-27-2009 06:52 AM

Afaik Windows 7 will even run fast and fine on older pc's and even on Netbooks.

I'll give it a shot..
