And i thought 13 euros per check was a lot here :-( Netherlands..
I still don't understand why this shit is so expensive...I know some banks in other countries only ask a few dollars to cash a check..

dial 02-22-2009 06:31 PM

in the USA we don't get charged anything for cashing checks from other countries

LiveDose 02-22-2009 06:42 PM

Damn that's crazy.

Not true. Wells Fargo charges $21 for it whether or not they can collect. Collection time is up to three weeks.

Personally i think checks are as ancient as Commodore 64.

fallenmuffin 02-22-2009 07:27 PM

Beats $50+ for a wire transfer. Why programs don't offer ACH deposits is beyond me.

Fucksakes 02-22-2009 07:33 PM

or when a fucking check for 20$ bounces and I gotta pay back the 20$ plus 20 for fees.

happened a couple times.. ccbill is the only one I trust.

Killswitch - BANNED FOR LIFE 02-22-2009 07:39 PM

My local bank charged me $7.50 to cash a $14 check from Canada :1orglaugh

pimplink 02-22-2009 07:46 PM

gosh.. checks are horrible

Sausage 02-22-2009 07:49 PM

God I hate checks. Talk about an outdated irritating method of sending money.

Overload 02-22-2009 08:24 PM

err, checks is a pain ... ok, only €12,50 for six checks with my
bank but still ... why the fuck do they squeeze us so badly? :(

31$ US to deposit a check in Mexico, EVEN if the bank is a Foreign Bank.

pocketkangaroo 02-22-2009 08:31 PM

If you deal with a lot of sponsors, checks are still the way to go in the U.S. I'd rather not pay the $30 fee for each sponsor. I'd be all for ACH but am surprised how few companies offer it.

you should be able to get an account plan that doesn't charge you for US checks. On the shitty side, after cashing US checks for 10 years my bank wants to hold them. Dumbfucks.

Sly 02-22-2009 08:39 PM

I prefer checks... it seems like it's an American only thing. No idea why. I still like checks though.

Loch 02-23-2009 01:07 AM

Because its an outdated technology, soem banks in europe dont even know what to do with them anymore.
Why not just use wires?
checks suck, always will....

DirtyDanza 02-23-2009 01:16 AM

Ive never paid a fee to cash a check from another country... worst ive had to do is wait 10 days for a 10k check to clear... they released 5 k after 2 days and the other 5k a week later...

all incoming wires are free and outgoing wires cost me 6 bucks I can do it all online....

Tempest 02-23-2009 01:23 AM

Do all of you guys just complain about the charges or did you talk to your bank people to see about alternate options? I was going to get charged per check and told them it was unacceptable.. They had me open a US dollars biz account so I don't get charged anything.

robatolla was saying that earlier... I told him to ach he said

but I like getting checks in the mail.....

I like both....

v4 media 02-23-2009 01:45 AM

La Caixa in Spain and Rabobank in Nederlands used to let me bulk my cheques together and charge me only once.

Adultbouncer cheques were a fucker for me to cash as they were in USD from a Canadian bank. the charges were $60-70 cant remeber the exact amount.

wjxxx 02-23-2009 01:57 AM

I wonder why CCBILL doesn`t issue their own ATM cards

Yeah, that's what I did too.

Antonio 02-23-2009 02:08 AM

I pay $15.00 (could be 15 euros not 100% sure) and have to wait about a month

beta-tester 02-23-2009 02:32 AM

I pay just 1% of the check amount for it to be deposited on my account. I think that's fair.

They don't for me. Ive banked at wells fargo forever and never been charged for foreign checks. Maybe its your local branches thing or something though

SeniorX 02-23-2009 02:46 AM

Sponsors should definitely switch to wire transfers, faster, more secure, and in EU, it costs only $2.50 to make an international wire transfer, while it costs $4+ posting fees to send a check. So in that aspect EU is ahead of USA.

Zorgman 02-23-2009 02:52 AM

Australia - StGeorge bank.
$10.50 per check, or $15.30 for 3 checks.

Fucken shits me to no end. I welcome Epassporte payments. Best thing that happened.

NetHorse 02-23-2009 02:56 AM

Never been charged for depositing a check, from the U.S or anywhere else. International wire transfer fees on the other hand are ridiculous. $30 charge from the program, and another $30 charge from the bank. $60 every 2 weeks X 26 = $1,560 for ONE program. :error

SteveHardeman 02-23-2009 04:04 AM

You should consider contacting your sponsor. If I had a sponsor who was a good guy, sending me a decent number of signups each month, I'd be more than happy to add an additional percentage point or two to his payout to make up for the check cashing fees.

HomerSimpson 02-23-2009 04:23 AM

over here is about 5 EUR or 1% of the check (larger amount is paid)...
but not same situation in all banks...

PS:
Trusted bank customers, on checks below $500, get cash right away!
(no waiting for collections) :)

PPS: I prefer ePassporte! It lowers costs + no need going to bank!

halfpint 02-23-2009 04:32 AM

Holy shit thats pretty steep.I paid about £12.00 ($17.54) for mine over here in the UK. If I use Barcalys bank its half the price but I have to wait a lot longer for the check to clear

james_clickmemedia 02-23-2009 04:43 AM

I used to have a US$ business account in UK with HSBC to avoid such charges. The only time I paid a fee was when I transfered by salary for US $ business account to my checking account once a month.

If you're paying that much you may as well switch to wire and a less frequent payout (and/or a higher minimum payout level)

I got a nasty surprise when HSBC sent off 5 cheques for collection, as well as their local commission (which was a few bucks USD) a further $USD25 had mysteriously disappeared from the value of each cheque. They said it was the USA bank's fees. Funny that 5 different banks all charged exactly the same fee, eh?

Wrong. My old credit union used to charge me $30 for a Canadian check. It even said draw from some bank in NY with us funds. Needless to say, I am no longer with them. Not that bank of america is any better though. :Oh crap

Yes! Checks and fax machines are my two biggest pet peeves when dealing with other businesses in the USA...

Elli 02-23-2009 10:16 AM

I prefer the speed and reliability of wires, but the fees can be high. For a Cdn bank to receive an international wire is a $20 fee, but it's free to deposit a cheque from whereever.

Hazlewood 02-23-2009 12:49 PM

I get 30 transactions not including wires am month before I pay. Then it is only $1 each afterwards

We always go over the limit but at least it's not $30 for one check

TheSenator 02-23-2009 01:15 PM

Why not just set your limit to 500.00 USD instead of cashing small checks.

John-ACWM 02-23-2009 01:25 PM

:1orglaugh sorry, not funny... unbelievable :Oh crap

webmasterchecks 02-23-2009 01:25 PM

by the end of the year, we should have a small network of bank accounts in foreign countries to make it easier for international companies affiliates to get their funds.

working on that plan now matter of fact

You answered your own question

ccbill and others will never do ach when they can get 25 bucks or more for wire transfers.

Kenny B! 02-23-2009 01:47 PM

This is why I love epassporte, easier to pay affiliates and easier to get paid.

magicmike 02-23-2009 02:48 PM

We offer epass and checks, and wires if your getting paid over $1000. It costs us $25 - $30 to send a wire, and we get charged $20 or so for incoming wires.

That being said I know a lot of our EU webmasters that are paid by check set their minimum payments higher as the check fees are quite high.

We dont pay anything for Canadian checks or checks in US denomination - but if we get a check from for instance SPAIN in their currency then this will happen. Nothing local about it.
